This is an 8” SWING drill press. The 8” swing means that it can drill a hole at the center of an 8 inch circular material or 2X the clear throat depth of 4” – the distance between the face of the support column to the center of the chuck. Very straight forward operation and easy to use – but with limitations – I was able to drill through wood, plastic and aluminum stock limited to thickness of about 1-3/4” due to its limit of 2 inches of vertical travel. The on/off switch is very prominent and conveniently located in front. The three armed feed handle only needs to be spun less than one full (about 7/8) rotation to move the chuck the full 2 inches of travel. There is 7-1/2” clear between the bottom of the chuck and the fully lowered table, I was able to use a 3” table vice. They provide a very detailed 23 page Instruction / User’s manual. Assembly took about 10 minutes, major components are pre-assembled, assembly was limited to attaching the column to base, slipping on the drill table, attaching the drill housing to the post, and installing the chuck.I believe they sent me someone else’s returned unit – evidenced by a lot of black grease around the Spindle Return Spring housing – the fact that this appears to be a returned unit may explain the problems I encountered: 1) I had to adjust the Spindle Return Spring, the previous buyer had incorrectly adjusted the spring – it was over tightened, requiring excessive force to turn the feed handle and made a lot of spring binding noises – but in order to adjust spring tension, there are two 1/4” thick jam hex nuts that must be loosened, most crescent and open end wrenches are 5/16” thick – you will need a thin hex or adjustable wrench; 2) the drill shakes and rattles at the high speed setting even with no load. This limited the maximum speed to 2100 rpm.Drilling simple holes through materials was easy – but I had a project that required cutting a 1-3/8” diameter hole through 3/8” thick 6061 aluminum – this proved to be too much for this drill.press – if I attemped to drill with even light pressure, it would stall immediately regardless of the speed setting. The only way I was able to cut through the material was by lightly skimming the surface of the aluminum using a lot of cutting oil – the stability of the drill press (except at the 3140 rpm speed) helped a lot, I could easily control the rate of feed to maintain a minimal amount of pressure – but it was slow, slow, slow – I also turned the aluminum bar over to cut through both sides. The feed required was so slow, it felt like it was not cutting at all, but after about 15 minutes of intermittent drilling – required because the motor kept getting hot – it did cut through.

Nice small size, can acommodate 1/2 bits. But I would suggest that it be bolted to the table when in use!

The Wen drill press was packaged securely with styrofoam inside the box. The instructions were clear and easy to understand. It took about forty minutes for me to put it together. I have used it to drill holes in metal blocks to precision measurements. The only negative is that the spindle stroke is only two inches. It was easy to use and accomplished the task to my specifications. This drill seems to be well made and is very reasonably priced as well. It has a two year warranty.

Very pleased with my purchase. Easy and quick assembly. Needed something small for a small space and it’s working out great. It’s smooth running, somewhat quiet and well-built. Quite amazing for the price. Would definitely recommend.

Just what you would expect in a drill press. Well made, precise, and fully adjustable. Does what I needed it to do.

Was very easy to assemble and only took around 20 minutes to put together. Drill press runs really smooth and was able to run 1 3/8″ mortise bit into pine with no problem. Drill press is on the smaller side with only two inches of travel but it makes it perfect for small little projects. In general solid metal construction all around with only the depth stop piece being plastic and should not fail unless you are slamming into the depth stop. Just an excellent small drill press for a small work shop or work surface.

I haven’t really used it much yet, but it’s a nice solid feeling machine for the money. Setting it up was easy, you can change the speeds manually, and it’s clearly marked how many rpm’s you’re going to get from different gearings.

It was the Price that made Me buy this but now after trying to use it I find it just a little too small to use normal size drill bits are too long to use as planed Will Return for Upgrade Drill Press This is OK for small time projects Will Upgrade to something alittle more bigger

Rattles like crazy. The spring loaded chuck key and the rubber chuck key holder are a pain to use.

It arrived packed well and was very easy to assemble. You will need your own adjustable wrench and a rubber mallet or hammer and block of wood.It has 5 speeds by changing the pulley and there’s a guide chart inside the top lid. You can adjust the depth up to 2 inches. The table can be adjusted up and down easily and it will also tilt.Ideally, you will want to mount this to a bench top, but it does not include mounting hardware/bolts.It runs smooth and is very quiet for a power tool. Given its size and versatility, its a nice tool to have my home workshop.

This is a good starting benchtop drill press that is affordable for beginners. Assembly is easy just using the included instructions. Overall, the drill is pretty quiet compared to others I have used. The feed handles are positioned nice, but while spinning them to drive the drill bit down, it does not feel natural at all. Almost feels like it sticks and wants to return too quickly. Stock pieces will have to be limited in width as the overall chuck only moves 2 inches. I will likely have to adjust the spring tension. The on/off switch is located safely in the front and is easy to use. Recommend for the beginner or those on a budget.

Thank you so much to the amazing customer service representative! The drill press is a little top heavy and it fell off the table (before we bolted it down), denting the housing on top before we’d had a chance to use it … err … enough that it touched the motor/belt assembly. We tried bending it back, but the customer service rep sent us a new housing. I was a little worried that I’d missed something and it would shred when my hubby and I first used it. Hubby helped me put the new housing on and it works great! We also moved it further onto the table, because … oops. I appreciate the amazing customer care! We recycled the old housing responsibly at the recycling center. What a great product for a great price!

Some assembly required. Plug it in, install bit and it drills. Worked as expected.

Drill is small and compact. Just what I need for my little work shop. It will stop mid way if pushed to fast but I can adjust for that. Over all, very nice for the price.

Easy to assemble and works just fine for what I do with it. I use it at least 3 times a week and so far so good. Great product.

The drill press was easy to set up and use, but just like most other drill presses, changing the speed belt was not easy for me. Yes, I did change it to the mid-range, after about 10 minutes. LOLOver all it is a good small press and fits in tight space in my room. Recommended .
