Remember when power tools were actually powerful? WEN’s 10 in. swing variable speed drill press with laser centering device is a powerhouse for your shop. Packed with features that you’ll find in larger more industrial type drill presses. This drill press has the power to drill through metal, wood and other materials. The variable speed feature allows you to target in the exact speed (infinitely from 530-3100) that works for your project. Simply move a lever and adjust the speed as needed. No pulleys and belts to change. Our design uses a mechanical variable speed which allows for the same power and torque through the entire speed range. A digital readout displays the running speed. Constructed with a rigid frame consisting of cast iron. Its powerful induction motor features ball bearings for an extended life and it all comes together with smooth and balanced performance even at high speeds. The 1/2 in. chuck with JT33 spindle taper gives you versatility with a variety of bits and features on-board chuck key storage, so you never have to hunt around for it. Worktable bevels 45° left and right for those tricky operations for the perfect right angles consistently. Base has pre-drilled holes for mounting onto a bench or work stand. Slotted table allows for mounting clamps and vises for effective mounting. The X-pattern laser locks-on to your drill points saving on guesswork and sparing expensive materials. Remember when you could drill with laser precision? Remember WEN.

Easy on the fly speed changes, all cast iron body, very strong for its size. Completely satisfied with my drill press

Works good

Pros = Good value, adjustable speed, good torque. Cons = Vertical height adjustment is not precise and kinda piecemeal assembly, which affects the precision. Overall good for home hobbyist, not good enough for machine shop.

Drill press was just what I needed. Takes drills up to 1/2 inch.

Good deal for the money. I bought it primarily for machining polymer. Light milling and drilling. With a X-Y vise on the table it more than met expectations.

Works great just what I needed for my small shop.

The adjustable drill platform is a sloppy design. It was difficult to line everything up when putting it together. The performance of the drill is good. It does have a chuck for the spindle head which isn’t ideal but I got that to keep cost down. The spindle factory return setting was too tight and the spindle shaft would not return to the up position on its own. That had to be adjusted.

I received this on the 2nd of this month. i took my time setting it up. I am a master carpenter retired. 73 years old. As per other reviews with this machine i have found no problems. the base is machined great. the table is machined perfect. I have all the tool to check these items. The laser is right on the money. sure the speed control is stiff, but who wants to have the machine running and drop from 1300 RPM to 900 RPM. also i have a magnetic dial indicator and there is no run out. My square on the bits are right on. Also the motor is big enough for a bench mount drill press. I may have got lucky with this drill. But i am very happy with it.

The press is generally well made. Assembly was straightforward, but there was an issue with something in the pulley assembly (above the drill) hitting/knocking loudly on first power-up. I got that sorted, but still the press is just more noisy than expected (either the bearings or the motor itself). In fact I reached out with those concerns to Wen, opened a trouble ticket, sent a short video, but sadly they did not respond (except to confirm my ticket was open and I’d have a response in 1 to 5 days … this was 11 days ago). So support is a disappointment. All that said, the drill seems to function well enough, so far. And I hope it continues to work (because if it should fail, I’m concerned whether I would be successful in getting support). Because of that concern, and given that the press is not exceptional, I cannot recommend it to others.

Very happy so far with this Wen 4212 drill press and glad I went for the automatic variable speed. Easy to setup and use. “Run out”, i.e., straightness of bit in chuck was much better than I expected. I just finished using it to do my first aluminum bar drilling project with great quick results with 26 holes. I didn’t use the laser but it seems pretty accurate out of the box. No need for a built in light source since it’s easier and more flexible to use a clip/clamp light when & where needed. The way the unit is shipped and packaged made me think it had already been opened and setup & returned. I took it back and got another one and the new unit was packaged exactly the same way. The electric cord is haphazardly tied, part of the press breaks through the top layer of styrofoam and the manual plastic bag is already open and irregularly cut open along top of bag. Since two different units were packaged almost identically, it’s obviously the way Wen does it. Regardless, a terrific value and wish i’d gotten it long ago. Most of my projects will involve aluminum and glass holes. The aluminum will be mostly for precisely located holes that will then be tap threaded ranging from 6-32 to 5/24.
