Remember when power tools were actually powerful? WEN’s 12 in. Variable Speed Drill Press is a powerhouse for your shop. This bench-top, cast iron drill press has the power to drill through metal, wood and other materials. Max drill capacity is 5/8 in. and 1 in. thick cast iron. The variable speed feature allows you to target in the exact speed (infinitely from 580-3200 RPM) that works for your project. While you are working you simply move a lever and adjust the speed as needed without touching any pulleys or belts. A digital readout powered by LED lights displays the running speed. Rigid frame cast iron construction ensures accurate holes and prevents wobbling and walking during operation. Our powerful induction motor features ball bearings for an extended life and smooth and balanced performance even at high speeds. The 5/8 in. chuck with MT2 spindle taper gives you versatility with a variety of bits and features on-board chuck key storage, so you never have to hunt around for it. Worktable bevels 45 degree left and right for those tricky operations for the perfect right angles. Base has predrilled holes for mounting onto a bench or work stand. Slotted table allows for mounting clamps and vises for effective mounting. The X-pattern laser locks-on to your drill points saving on guesswork and sparing expensive materials. Remember when you could drill with laser precision? Remember WEN.

The drill press is very well made and worth the money if you need it for occasional to frequent light-duty applications

Arrived on time and undamaged. Only problem was a constant buzzing when plugged in. With the help of WEN customer service problem was diagnosed as a faulty circuit board for speed readout. WEN sent out new circuit board and problem solved. Works great now but unfortunate to have repair new purchase. Otherwise would have gotten 5 stars.

I really like this drill press !It was easy to set up, the laser was surprisingly accurate and the variable speed is amazing. I would recommend this to anyone with a small to medium shop.

I’m very happy with the quality and accuracy of this press, along with it’s features and price. It’s easy to set up and use and you get a lot for your money. I’ve found nothing to dislike about it, though haven’t tried it on drilling steel yet, just wood and softer materials so I can’t vouch for that type of use.

My vintage drill press handed down by my grandfather finally died. I agonized over replacing it! … However the WEN is great! It runs so smoothly and is built to last. I’m looking forward to drilling some holes with my grandson as my father and grandfather did with me, and passing it along to him

Called Wen customer service relative to my drill coming with a defective feed hub (2 holes instead of 3 for feed handles) After 24 minutes wait with options for callback and que status, I was connected with an excellent customer service representative who even with my hearing issues spoke good clear english and was extremely knowledgeable. He told me I did not need to return my Drill press and instead sent me a new feed hub and gave me excellent instructions how to install the new part. In my mind, having access to great customer service this day in age outways the inconvenience of the defective part.

The drill was easy to assemble and performed well.

This drill press was exactly what I was looking for, I am mainly using it for wood based products. I am using all size drill bits and have not had any issues as to date, ranging from small all the way up to 2 1/2 inch forstner bits. This is my first drill press, so I do not have any past examples to compare to, but the drill press table even when hand tightened from the back may sway from side to side if pushed.

Assembly was easy and simple. It will do for my needs, but the motor could use more power. When I first tried it at high speed, the motor would slow down so much that the start winding would be energized. This would enable the motor to speed up to where the start winding would automatically switch out. Then the motor would slow down again. Up and down, up and down. And this was without any drilling. It seems to be doing better now – – I don’t ordinarily drill at high speeds anyway. At lower speeds it drilled large holes in a 2×4 with ease. I am pleased to find that there is no slop in the quill; that was one of my concerns before buying. I like the roomy table and find it easy to position to where I want it. The laser crosshairs are accurate, and I like the built-in light. The assembly instructions tell how to removed the chuck, and these instructions seemed to me to be part of the assembly procedure. But they are for some future time when you might need to removed the chuck. The chuck can handle a small drill bit: 1/16 inch. Delivery was prompt, but as usual the tracking was wrong. One message said it would be delivered on Thanksgiving Day. Not.

Setup was simple and it was easily mounted to my mobile bench. Belts not very tight cuz a ⅜” Forster bit made it slip while drilling ½” plywood. Can’t just open the top to adjust without tools. Other than that the features are all usable and well thought out, and it does the job I need.

As with all the When products, you get what you pay for. It’s a very decent drill press, minimal run-out, good power, excellent features and ok fit and finish. For a budget tool it’s pretty good but lacks the smoothness and fit and finish of better brands. Overall it gets the job done.

Works great. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a drill press. I love the light and laser that shows exactly where you are drilling. I am very happy with with this purchase.

Hefty drill for the price. Assembly was easy. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is there is a small amount of runout. I may reseat the chuck and see if that improves it. After using a Shopsmith I really miss not having a bigger drilling surface with a fence. I guess that will be my next project after I build the drill press stand.

This is a very well made device. The instructions are clear and understandable. This is not the case with many tools these days. Assembly is very straight forward and many components are already assembled. The chuck is 5/8″ capacity. Many bench top models have only a 1/2″ chuck capacity. My favorite feature is the variable speed control. With the press running you can change drill speed depending upon what material you are drilling. A digital speed readout gives the exact rpm right on front of the drill press. I’ve only had my drill press for a few weeks but, so far, I like the features and it’s operation. I do recommend this product.

Product was pretty good considering the other options out there. I really wanted a variable speed and it has an easy to read digital readout. Laser is nice. The keyed chuck is 5/8 and seems pretty good quality. The switch is pretty cheaply made and should be upgraded. Good value.

First Wen product, so far so good…easy to assemble and everything works as described. I never give any product 5 star’s until I have used it multiple times on different types of materials, so ask me this same question 6 months.
