Remember when power tools were actually powerful? WEN’s 12 in. Variable Speed Drill Press is a powerhouse for your shop. This bench-top, cast iron drill press has the power to drill through metal, wood and other materials. Max drill capacity is 5/8 in. and 1 in. thick cast iron. The variable speed feature allows you to target in the exact speed (infinitely from 580-3200 RPM) that works for your project. While you are working you simply move a lever and adjust the speed as needed without touching any pulleys or belts. A digital readout powered by LED lights displays the running speed. Rigid frame cast iron construction ensures accurate holes and prevents wobbling and walking during operation. Our powerful induction motor features ball bearings for an extended life and smooth and balanced performance even at high speeds. The 5/8 in. chuck with MT2 spindle taper gives you versatility with a variety of bits and features on-board chuck key storage, so you never have to hunt around for it. Worktable bevels 45 degree left and right for those tricky operations for the perfect right angles. Base has predrilled holes for mounting onto a bench or work stand. Slotted table allows for mounting clamps and vises for effective mounting. The X-pattern laser locks-on to your drill points saving on guesswork and sparing expensive materials. Works fine, I just find it a stretch to say it’s “powerful”. Hopefully, it will last, but I am afraid it will burn up quickly. When drilling metal, you have to apply very little pressure, or it will freeze up often.

This is my first drill press, so I can’t compare it to others. But my limited experience with it is fantastic. I love the variable speed control; don’t want to mess with belts. I’ve used it to drill a channel in solid steel, no problem. Drilled 22 holes in a wood piece, no problem of course, but it finished the job in minutes rather than maybe an hour with a hand-held drill. Construction is solid. Loving it!

Shipped on time with no damage, and very easy to assemble. Replaced a 20 year old small bench top DP. Using a 2 1/2 dia Forstner bit on oak no problem, this would stall my old DP. Variable speed adjustment is easy, with a clear readout. I do adjust speed often which is important when changing from a 2 1/2 to a 1/4 bit. The light is a simple but very helpful feature. I center punch everything, so I do not use the laser alignment. I read reviews with issues that the bottom of the cast iron base was not perfectly flat, which I checked on my table saw and it was off a very small amount. Not sure why that is a problem, the top of the base is ground and the worktable is ground and they are flat, which is necessary to drill accurate holes. Overall great woodworking drill press for the cost. I’m retired and use this DP almost daily on woodworking projects.

Easy to set up and easy to use. Some of the knobs are a little poorly placed, but not a show stopper. A bit of wobble, but I’ve been drilling just fine. Laser is a MAJOR plus, IMO. I would buy the same press over again. Real super bargain for the price and HD was super fast in delivery.

So far I am very happy with Wen 12″ VS drill press. I am using it right now for drilling rocks using a diamond bit. It has good power and the Variable speed is nice to have and works well. It was easy to assemble so t/hat was nice too. It does seem to have a little bit of runout at the chuck but I have not tried to adjust it yet. When I get a chance I will have to see if I can adjust that out but for what I am doing with it now it’s not a big deal. I also like the laser sights and the work light on it. All in all for the price point I am happy with the unit.
