Remember when power tools were actually powerful? The WEN 15 in. 8.6 Amp Variable Speed Floor Standing Drill Press meets the needs of both home and professional users. This model includes a full 4 in. of stroke capacity, allowing users to drill through materials up to 4 in. thick. With such a large spindle travel, drilling holes through a 4×4 board has never been easier. Adjust our variable speed anywhere from 280 to 1000 RPM with the simple turn of a lever, or make a quick belt adjustment for variable speed ranging from 1000 to 3300 RPM. The digital readout reports the current RPM of the machine for increased accuracy when drilling. The 12 in. x 12 in. cast iron table pivots up to 45 degrees in both directions while the laser pointer ensures precise holes. The chuck with Morse #2 spindle taper accepts bits anywhere from 1/12 to 5/8 in. in size. Cast iron frame and base gives the machine a hefty support system to prevent the drill press from walking or vibrating. The WEN 15 in. Nice drill press. Easy to assemble. Variable drive is easy to use. All components were metal except for the gear on the handle to move the quill up and down.

It took a little adjustment after setup to get the run-out within .01 four inches from the chuck but I was able to do this. All in all I am quite satisfied with the product. My only suggestion would be to replace fair quality chuck with a Jacobs chuck. That would make this an outstanding machine. Overall I am pleased with it and would recommend it to others.

I use the Wen 8.8 drill press for aluminum and an occasional small woodworking project, usually to support the aluminum projects. The drill press is smooth and easy to use and the laser crosshair is a useful feature although don’t rely on it for perfect positioning. I would buy this again.

Drill assembly was straight forward

It was easy to assemble and the table didn’t need any adjustments. The drill chuck was totally square with the table right out of the box .

the drill was easy to assemble, and so far all the holes are drilled true no vibration. The laser was easy to set, and always on target.

I just set this up the other day and I am very Happy to say it’s Perfect. It took about 30 minunets to set up checking everything. The instructions are a little rough but you can figer it out. The problem I had was seting the table mount over the pole and down the rack bar. Could not get the mount to strat down the rack after removing the rack collar. So to solve the problem I set the rack bar in the table mount and then slipped it over the column and down till the rack set in the base column mount this way the rack matched up to the worm gear and worked smothly. Set the head motor assembly on the column and alined everthing. Pluged in and tested the lamp motor and laser as well as the speed control. All was good, the next day It took about 10 more minunets to to set the lasers for a perfect center with a bit and a block of wood layed across the table. The head motor assembly has a rough finish but thats OK it does not effect the drilling process as for every thing else its well made and very heavy not cheap and flimsy. I know I will get many years out of this press.

Very nice free standing 15 inch drill press. For the money the value here is incredible.Laser pointer which I think is simply bling on a drill press, but digital readout on the spindle speed is very nice! Also speed changes with a simple pull on a lever. There are two speed ranges low and high, you will have to move a belt into different pulleys for low or high. The run out appears to be within a few thousands of an inch. It is smooth running too. A work light is mounted on it also, a nice addition.

used already for several projects. Has performed beyond all expectations. Would definitely recommend.

From what I saw it appeared to be a very nice drill. Only problem was there are two boxes and I only got one, the tall support beam was missing. HD said they would “let me know if it showed up”. With that attitude I decided to just return it. Will probably reorder it from somewhere. Just an FYI make sure you have two boxes if you are picking it up at the store.

I have used this off and on for the last two weeks and have had no problem with the equipment. Not crazy about the laser set-up but can live with it. The only real complaint I have is the instructions on how to assemble the unit. I have been around tools all my life, (69 yrs), and had to stop and think that what was on the instructions, was sometimes not the proper order to assemble it in. However, working through all that, once assembled it worked good. I modified the lasers by cutting a slot in the safety covers so I could adjust the lasers w/out having to remove the guard. Alot easier now, but still have to constantly adjust when moving the table up and down. I will probably not even bother with them. Not worth it. I did build a riser for it to sit on to get the table at a more user friendly working height and lag bolted the drill press to it.

Good quality drill press at a low price. Everything fit and lined up well. Variable speed works well. Digital RPM is nice. Plenty of power for woodworking. The chuck is the only cheap thing. I am considering buying a nice keyless chuck.

This drill press is very nice. I like the Variable speed.

The castings are a bit rough. This makes swinging the table side to side difficult. I miss having a quill lock, although rarely available. Overall, solid construction and controls; easy to use.
