It does its job. Well balanced no vibrations. Takes about 3 minutes to start and stop but looks to have enough power for my ocassional sharpening needs.

I just purchased this and set it up today.I’ve read quite a few reviews that complained about vibration. When I first fired it up, yup…. It vibrated! Here’s the thing… If a unit is defective, it’s defective, but nobody ships a grinder that’s all set up and tuned. Even if they did, they have no control over what happens during shipping. So, plan on spending some time aligning and dressing the wheels!I spent about half an hour, to 45 minutes finding the “sweet-spot” where the wheels didn’t wobble, and then, using one of the inexpensive wheel dressers, took off some material from the face. (not going to explain how…. check out YouTube). Now, it runs on my bench without being bolted down, doesn’t walk, and actually sounds decent. This is NOT a $1,000 bench vice! It is, however, VERY nice for the price! If I can figure out how to do it, I’ll upload a video.

When I recieved this grinder I spun the wheels, very smooth. Plug it in and purrs like a kitten, won’t even have to bolt it down. Started it up again to full speed then turned off, it took 3 min and 20 sec for the wheels to completely stop. That is smooth, very happy. Will use the grinder for sharpening lathe tools.

It would be nice if it had a braking systems but other than that it does the job well

I would have given it a 5 but there is a small shake.

Runs smoothly right out of the box even without attaching to bench. I haven’t used it much yet, but the quality seems excellent so far. It’s extremely adequate for home use. The posts (1 7/8″ long carriage bolts) that you use to attach the tool rest brackets are too short to use the washers. There are barely two threads available. I had to skip the washers. The LED lights remind me of some of the early LEDs used in flashlights when they first came out. I don’t think they will be of much use. The tool rests are made of cast aluminum, very strong and rigid.

After extensive deliberation and research on picking out a bench grinder, I settled for this one. Although I’ve never owned a Wen product before, I must say I was more than impressed with this tool when it arrived well packaged and as scheduled. I’m confidant you’d be hard pressed to find a better unit for the money than what this Wen has to offer. I don’t use a grinder that often, but it’s nice to have one for when you do need one. And I’m using it more than I thought. Eventually I want to get the brush.Only thing I see that would be nice is if they had four mounting holes in the corners opposed to just two located in a tight spot under the motor. I had to mark the holes to drill in the bench which was a little tricky in itself, then drill the holes and bolt coming up from the bottom and nut on top. (see photo) That’s the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. It’s a 5 star unit in my opinion, but do believe a better way to fasten it to the bench would be helpful.I used 3/8 inch bolts which filled the mounting holes in the grinder. My bench is 3 inches thick and 4 inch bolts were a tad short, so had to use the 5 inch, which was plenty long enough. All in all, I’d recommend this grinder to anyone that likes to tinker in the garage and keep his mower blades, shovels, knives and drill bits nice and sharp. And it looks good too. Very pleased. There were a couple pieces missing in the box when it came (the right and left tool rest brackets) and I called customer service and they quickly got them out to me. Very professional and top notch service. I’ll be looking into more Wen products in the future.

Great quality – this 8″ grinder fit the bill for me. Seems heavy duty and well built. The LED lights work great in illuminating the work area.

The product was delivered on time and all parts and pieces went together easily and I was up and running in minutes. It is solid and nothing rattles or vibrates – the motor runs very smoothly. I have saved my mower blades from the last 2 years knowing this need was coming. Been using it for about 3 weeks now. Glad I upgraded to the 8 inch, as it ground my mower blades as if they were cardboard! Not an expensive unit, but a grinding warrior. I have already sharpened 2 pair of blades for my riding mower, and that means I have saved more money by sharpening my blades instead of buying new ones, which would have cost more than this WEN did in the first place. If it dies tomorrow I am STILL money ahead! Seriously, all you need is a stand for it or a spot to mount it and it is ready to go! I am very pleased with this unit.

Excellent low cost grinder. Mine came very well balanced with almost no vibrations. Setup is simple, but one of the small bolts that holds the plexi glass safety shields was stripped. I replaced it with a trip to the hardware store pretty easily. Also, the bolts that hold the bracket that the tool rest mounts to are just a bit too short, and taking them on/off is a chore as there’s not much room for the lock washer which you will want to use. Other than that it’s great. Excellent LED lights, useful but small safety shield, excellent power, quench tray is useful. I wish the LED lights were not battery operated but they are very easy on the batteries so no a big deal. The tool rests are cast metal and fairly rigid, but too small and mounted in a semi-flimsy fashion so they are a bit wobbly. Could be replaced by a homeade version fairly easily. I bought a WEN wire wheel and replaced the smoother stone… it’s really useful and I find myself using it often (as in … “how did I get along without this before” kind of often). Tool spins up fast, doesn’t bog down easily. Takes FOREVER to spin down with 2 wheels, but adding the wire wheel made the spin down much faster. Very happy with the purchase.
