Was not the tool I needed. I am not sure what niche this is supposed to fill, it came up when I searched Home Depot for sanders for detail work, but I ended up buying (and successfully utilizing) a Ryobi pointy-ended sander instead after this one did not prove up to the task.

WEN Variable Speed 2 Amp Detailing File Sander with 1/2 in. x 18 in. Belt fits a definite need. I have a collection of sanders and one would think they can do the job. In spite of that even with my small detail sander I still have to get out the sandpaper and block to get into crevices and odd shapes for sanding. This belt sander helps in that regard. It has only a half inch wide file sanding belt that’s controlled with a variable speed knob that goes up to 1,800 feet./ minute. The handle is comfortable and has a locking knob so you can rotate the sanding belt rod up, down and horizontal. I’d say the range of movement is about 25 degree’s from horizontal in both directions, up and down. This allows you to hold the handle at a comfortable place while the sanding end does the work. The tool comes with a dust port which is good at collecting dust. My 1 1/4-inch small shop vac hose fits easily and taped it for a secure fit. Changing belts is not a problem, the unit comes with three different grits, from 60 to 320 grit. Just push on the head that is spring held it loosens the belt, slip it off and put on another one. Slip the dust cover off, its held by plastic clips, and adjust the tension lever, if needed. That’s it no big deal at all. It runs fine, not too loud, but it does get hot fast. Its a small unit blowing a lot of air to stay cool. The way its designed you are really using the end and going back an inch or two up against the work. I was using the low grit and it was fast. Don’t apply much pressure let the sandpaper do all the work. Small point, they recommend you use separate belts for wood and another one for metal work to prevent metal filings from later scratching the finish of any wood work. I already have a couple of WEN sanders and they hold up just fine. This one seems a little delicate, but it should be as dependable as my others. Its really for close up detail tight work and for that purpose its well suited for the job.
