Description
Remember when you needed to smooth out those joists: plane away chips, splinters and misshaped edges with the WEN 6 Amp 3-1/4 in. Electric Hand Planer. Perfect for fixing stubborn doors and reshaping post edges. This power planer’s 6 Amp motor delivers over 34,000 cuts per minute to your work piece, slicing away any irregularities until the surface of your boards are aligned and smooth. With a cutting width of 3-1/4 in. and a maximum cutting depth of 1/8 in. you’ll have the perfect companion for preparing reclaimed wood back into perfectly useable boards. The 16 positive stops increase in increments of 1/128 in. anywhere from 0 all the way up to 1/8 in. The base plate shoe even includes a V-shaped groove for easily flattening sharp post corners. Aside from the power planer, this package also includes a dust bag, a rabbeting guide, a kickstand and a parallel fence bracket. The rabbeting guide adjusts anywhere from 0 to 7/10 in. to allow for rabbets in a variety of sizes. The parallel fence provides an accurate and straight cut by making sure your strokes are directly parallel to the edge of the wood (a must have for planning door edges, wood trim and boards). The kickstand protects both the blade and the work piece in between uses by keeping the blade elevated and out of contact from the surface of your project. Finally, the dust bag attaches to either side and collects all of your loose shavings to keep your work space clean and sawdust free.

Needs work. Both shoes had to be sanded flat. The leveling adjustment for the front shoe is poorly designed & unreliable, needs to be at least 3 set screws. Manual very short on necessary instructions. Loosen end set screws in blade holder or large screws won’t turn. Exhaust port doesn’t fit std home vacuum hose. Needs adapters for inverted table use. Replace BB under orange dial w/ roundhead pin in spring. Otherwise OK. Haven’t used yet.

The collection bag is deceiving–I thought ir would just fill up gradually and I’d stop and enpty… not so… it fills up FAST and can clog… so, I will use the planer without the collector bag and possibly with a vacuum… Nifty gadget!

I’ve only used it once after a few practice tries and it seems to do what it suppose to do. I’m a self taught beginner wood maker, and this tool seems easy to use. I returned this Wen planer. I found that while planing, I would be inadvertently changing the blade depth because the knob that is on the front of the planer that is to be held onto while planing, can be too easily turned, causing the blade depth to be changed, especially if planing on a vertical surface. They should make it so that the knob has to be pulled up in order to turn it to change the blade depth. Kind of like the opposite of a child proof cap! Otherwise, the planer seemed to be well built, or should I say WEN built!
