Remember when you had to smooth out your work piece with nothing but a sheet of sandpaper and some elbow grease. With the WEN 10 in. Drum Sander, you’ll never have to surface sand a board by hand again. Simply feed in a work piece up to 3 in. thick to sand off an even and level layer of wood. Unlike the power planning alternatives, drum sanders work great for both face grain and end grain alike; no more splitting work pieces. The 10.5 Amp motor rotates the 10 in. x 5 in. sanding drum up to 24 times per second, moving the sandpaper at a speed of 2300 ft. per minute. The 4 in. dust port connects easily to the collection system of your choice to minimize cleanup during operation. Our variable speed conveyor goes anywhere from 0 ft. to 10 ft. per minute, allowing you to find the perfect feed rate for your particular project. The optional work stand allows for easy mobility and storage between jobs. Just lift up the handles to wheel your unit anywhere in the shop, or ditch the stand and mount the drum sander to your favorite benchtop instead. And, because its a WEN product, your drum sander comes backed by a nationwide network of skilled service technicians, a friendly customer help line, and a 2-year warranty. Remember when you could smooth out that end grain? Remember WEN.

Does a good job

I have used this for a couple of days. It works just fine. The unit is very heavy and seems excessively so. This is almost the same model sander as the grizzly version. It is very difficult to change the sanding belt and seems like a poor design for doing so. Also the belts are 3.25″ wide compared to industry standard 3″ wide. Which means replacement belts are only found from WEN. The unit comes with a 2 year warranty. So far its ok.

this is sander, not a planer. As long as you purchase it for this reason, you’ll like it. If you’re looking to take a lot of material in a single pass, you’ll be disappointed. It has great dust collection capabilities, and on top of that, it’s very quiet. I was surprised how little noise it produces. Set up is very easy as well. It took me about an hour to assemble it, and other than adjusting the tracking on the conveyor belt, it’s on point right out of the box.

This unit is heavy. About 260 pounds of extremely high-quality product. I was able to uncrate it, move it to the shed and set up this unit alone. However, I do not recommend this be done by one person unless you are in really good shape. The Wen unit was delivered to my garage door in a plywood skid box and banned to hold it all together. Extremely well packaged I must say. The 10-inch Drum Sander unit then has to be attached to a base that also comes with the unit and needs assembly. Or you can mount this unit right to any heavy-duty work bench of your choice. Very easy to follow instruction. A booklet with all the information you need comes with the unit which furnishes HELP needs phone number, web address for tech support, and website information. I have set the unit up in my shed shop but still without a vacuum system as this unit will create mass amounts of dust. I have other Wen products and they are great. Built to outlast the test of time. I am sure this unit will provide many great years of service. Any person or persons with wood working skills would be proud to own such a great power tool. I am very satisfied and am happy with this 10.5 Amp Ten Inch Drum Sander and Variable Speed Conveyor. And the stand with wheels that was also included with this Wen unit.

The WEN 10 in. Drum Sander with Rolling Stand and Variable Speed Conveyor would be a nice addition to any wood working shop. The drum sander is solidly built, and a stand is provided with wheels and 2 lifting handles to make it easy to move the sander around in the shop. The provided stand is pretty short with the conveyor height only 27 inches high. The drum sander can be mounted on a permanent work bench if desired. Drum sanders work great for both face grain and end grain alike, no more splitting your end grain work piece on the planer. However, the sander is not meant to change thickness of the work piece only sand it. The maximum sanding depth per pass is 1/32 of an inch. The drum sander can sand a work piece up to 3 inches tall and 9 7/8 inch wide.On my first trial with the sander I scratched the word “scratch” into my work piece with a small Philips screw driver. My scratch was removed in 2 passes. I checked the thickness on both sides of the work piece and they were the same, so the sanding drum and conveyor table are parallel. Check out my before and after pictures. I plan to glue up some end grain trial pieces in the future when I have time.My Ridgid shop vacuum is equipped with a small cyclone separator and it worked well for dust collection from the drum sander. I used a 20 ft. vacuum hose and a 4-inch by 2-inch reducer off the discharge of the dust collection port of the drum sander. Some type of dust collection should be planned and used for the fine sanding dust.I’ve only had the drum sander for a short period of time, but I would recommend the WEN drum sander to any wood worker with a smaller size shop. The unit comes with 2-year warranty. The conveyor belt on my machine was split (at the splice) when I received it, but the WEN service tech send me another belt in a couple of days at no charge.
