Of all the inexpensive units like this I think the Wen is the best, I like the reverse switch

Does it’s job as designed. Requires some basic knowledge of how to sharpen blades and use a grinder. You should definitely purchase the accessory kit, that is very difficult to find.

Great unit, going to serve me well, just as advertised.

Great sharpener for the price. Gears made a little noise when I first turned it on, but they quickly worked themselves into shape, and the noise stopped. The guide bar does not sit perfectly square to the stone when left to its own devices. I had to tighten only the left clamp, then press down lightly on the bar until it sighted square to the stone’s face, then tighten the right clamp. At some point, I’ll just bend the uprights until the bar is square on its own. Machine does a GREAT job of sharpening. Did all of my knives, then moved on to scissors. Next is plane blades and chisels. Should have purchased one of these years ago!

The Wen Sharpener/Honing mach. Model # BG4270 is a must have for the DIYer and Pros. At a 115 RPM’s and a 10″ diameter grinding wheel with the 8″ diameter stropping wheel you can keep your tools sharp and ready to go. The machine it’s self is relatively compact in size and easy to take with you if need be, it weighs just a little over 30 lbs. The two way switch allows you to grind on the top using the clamp and glide bar. Or you can locate the clamp and guide bar in the holes on the back side of the machine for sharpening longer blades like manual hedge clippers or household scissors. It has a handy handle on the top for one handed carry, or if you prefer 2 handed carry you can grasp it from the bottom surface. The package comes with a tube of paste for use with the stropping wheel used for honing your tools. I highly recommend this machine…

A little wobbly but the bevel grind is fine and the chisel jig and angle gauge quite serviceable.

I love how fast and effortless this machine makes sharpening. I use it to sharpen my kitchen knives, pocket knives, wood chisels and wood planes. Haven’t tried scissors or mower blades yet.

Certainly not the quality of a Tormek but at 1/3rd the price it’s a good value. Wish the stropping wheel was 10″ like the whetstone!

An excellent value! A++

The product performed very well. Water cooled so you don’t lose the temper of your chisels and the strop wheel that polishes the chisel to a very fine edge. My chisels now cut the hard wood I use in my projects.

The wet stone sharpener is great. It does not spin fast where it is a danger to your hands and fingers. The water cools the metal and does not allow burn marks on the steel. I recommend watching videos on YouTube to learn more. The wheel is 220 grit but can be changed by using a grinding stone. This makes sharpening easier and does not grind away too much metal. I would recommend buying the attachment for sharpening and maintaining a steady stroke across the wheel. I tried freehand and I ruined a knife. I’ll take it as a learning curve.

Got it setup and broke it in by sharpening half of the kitchen knives in one session. Wouldn’t have happened with my other methods.

Works good, but it is messy.

The WEN grinder comes well-packaged. Be advised that the grinding wheel itself is not attached to the spindle IN THE BOX. So be careful when you remove it from the box to make sure you don’t accidentally drop it. I did find the wheel slightly difficult to install on to the spindle. It was a very tight fit and I needed a rubber mallet to gently coach the wheel back to its properly seated position. Read all the directions thoroughly especially regarding the use of water and first time use of the product. There are a lot of good tips included in the owner’s manual so be sure to read those also. The only recommendation I would make would be to label the tube containing the honing paste.

Easy assembly, exactly what I wanted for sharpening carving tools

Great little machine, but you need to buy the accessories from Tormek to really make it shine.

I returned the machine thinking it was defective. After talking to people who recommended it I now think the error was in the wording in the instructions. They explicitly said to turn it over by hand to make sure it turned “freely, smooth & balanced” before starting but I had to push it to get it to move and the motion was not smooth. There was a very perceptible bump or rumble feeling in it. Turns out this is normal because of the worm gear drive. They nee d to use better wording. I went to get another but they are currently out of stock . I do plan to try again. You could use better communication with you other departments, you would know I had returned it. I have to say I was very pleased with the service, both purchase & return.

Excellent machine for the price. Easy to setup. Was able to get work a cutting edge on to 90 year old vintage chisel in minutes.No hesitation in recommending this

This wet/dry sharpening system works well except for one significant problem. But, first the good:1) The 220 grit grinding wheel turns at 115 RPM’s to eliminate burning of the steel blades and losing the temper of the steel;2) The water bath keeps the stone and the steel cool as you sharpen and the water carries away the bits of steel removed through the grinding process:3) This sharpening system comes with tool rest and blade holder that accommodates plane and chisel blades;4) An angle guide is included to establish the precise angle of the blade;5) A leather stropping wheel is included in the system;6) A tube of honing paste is provided;7) The switch allows reversal of wheel rotation for grinding and honing;8) Has a carrying handle to allow movement and storage when not using.The problem is that as you are grinding or honing blades on the grinding wheel, it allows water to flow, not drip, but flow, as can be seen in the photo, from the wheel onto your bench which could present a problem as this tool is powered by electricity. This flow of water occurs in both directions of wheel rotation.The source of the problem is the water reservoir that is too small to capture the water coming off of the wheel.
