This was a Christmas gift for my husband. He was delighted. He commented that thee quality is outstanding and the set will meet his needs as he becomes more skilled in using his wood lathe. He thinks I was clever to select such a fine set but it was easy with the Home Depot website.

Haven’t put them up to a great test yet due to lack of time and my lathe not working the best but they seem to be of decent quality and relatively sharp right out of the box.

Excellent quality. Overall, I like the tools; however…1. The round-nose scraper – the tool is loose inside the handle, which makes it impossible to use; 2. The two smaller gouges – the groove is so short that, I calculate, within a year, they will be ground (sharpened) to the point where they will be useless. I work with very hard wood, and must sharpen them frequently; and,3. The wooden storage case – the corner was smashed, presumably during shipping.Really like the large gouge, which was the principle reason for purchasing the set – the entire set was less than a large Woodcraft gouge.

The sharpening needed to be tweeked on a couple of the chisels, but I have a bench grinder and knew the angle that I needed

The box the chisel set came in was busted on one end and coming apart.this was a gift and not that presentBle very disappointing.

Very sharp, great steel. Nice size for roughing out and heavy duty take down.

Not a bad starter kit. If you don’t have any chisels, and are getting into lathing, this is a solid place to start. Personally, I use a shopsmith, and have a original set, at least 30 years old. I was struck by the similarities between this set, and the ones shopsmith is currently offering, so I gave these a try. Makes for an interesting set. There are really just three piece that overlap exactly. Hard to say if these will last as long, but these are better that the old ones now.

Real heat treated HSS on these tools. Real HSS is hard. It is used to make cutting tools for metal working. You try and file the real stuff and you mark your file. These tools are hard and will hold a super sharp edge for a long time and will re-sharpen to a super fine edge. These tools will be passed down to my grandkids. The case even has form fitted wood gussets to help prevent damage when carrying. I added the foam myself. I don’t want to worry about being in a hurry and having a damaged edge if by some chance they came loose. The brass grommets look super and the handles are nice and long for comfort. So turn till your hearts content my friend. I previously bought a set from H……Freight that were advertized to be HSS and they were soft. They might have been HSS but not heat treated. I could file the edge so I promptly returned them.

This was a gift for my son-in-law and he was extremely pleased with it. I’ll inquire about how he likes them the next time I see him.

tools are of high quality and work well, need to be sharpened more often than I thought. Box they came in is flimsy and came damaged.

This is a good selection, not sure they’re the sharpest ever, but they serve the purpose.

Arrived promptly. All the chisels needed to be sharpened prior to first use. They seem to hold an edge well .
