This is a great tool, the 4 carbide blades give it great flexibility. I purchased 2 so I wasn’t changing tips continuously while working a project. As mentioned by others, my first tool came with no screws, so I went to the local hardware store and found a 3mm that fit. I brought it home and the first thing I did when I tightened down the screw was crack the carbide tip! So after that I was careful to just snug up the screw and it worked great, it chewed through hardwood like melted butter. So when I bought the second tool it came with 1 screw, I took it to Home Depot, I told the customer service representative on duty about only getting the 1 screw, she looked the tool up online, didn’t see Any mention of a screw and tried to send me on my way. And it wasn’t even April. The hardware guy got me squared away after some looking, they didn’t carry the same type screw small enough in the local store but in the specialty drawers they had what was needed. For those who need to purchase the correct size screw, it is an M3-0.5 8mm metric.Make sure it’s long enough or you will likely crack the carbide cutter.

Works better than expected. Only drawback is having to change inserts often. But that’s why I’m going to buy a 2nd one so I don’t have to change them as much.

These carbide tools stay sharp much longer that the traditional steel tools and are significantly less expensive than the name brand. You won’t be disappointed with the performance.

Greatly exceeded my expectations! PROS: great quality, sturdy, has 4 cutters, indexable, far less money that other carbide turning tools, just as good if not better than my expensive rockler set, replacement cutters set of (4) only $15 for the set and wrench! Nice feel while working, I found no complaints about this tool at all. Packaged well with nice cutter storage box. If I would have known about this tool I would have purchased 4 of these so I didn’t have to change cutters all the time. If you have the extra money buy 2 of these Incase they stop making them! I will be ordering another one at this price! I pay $25 a piece for replacement cutters for my rockler 3 piece mini turning tools! CONS: having to change the cutters but I knew what I was buying so I don’t really consider it a CON. It would just take a little more time to turn a piece if this is your only tool. Can’t say enough about this tool. Buy one you won’t regret it! BTW the replacement cutters sell out fast on wen website so check frequently for them. The customer service representative told me they only order 100 at a time! Good luck and happy turning!

This is an update with a HINT to my July 8, 2019 review.Love my WEN Lathe chisel with carbide inserts. The insert shapes are perfect for all of my lathe needs. AND they are really sharp and hold their edge in all types of wood. Carbide is used to machine steel in high production applications. Some have complained that the inserts are fragile and they are because they are extremely hard and brittle. The CAUSE of breaking is either mounting on an unclean tool OF not taking a minute to insure the handle surface is perfectly flat. Simply flat stone the tool surface, NO do not use a file, use a flat stone. Chrome plating can make slightly uneven surfaces so the best insurance is make the surface flat. See photo. I like to turn bowels of laminated wood scraps of various types so I will have soft pine next to very hard Ipe (Ironwood) or Purple heart. These inserts cut like butter. See photo of an in-process cereal bowl.

Thisi s a really nice set of 18.5 inch indexable wood turning chisel with 4 carbide cutter tips. It is a really nice set and it works so well. I have never had a set this nice before. i really do appreciate you letting me try this. I thank you so much. They work so well and so much easier than the ones I have already. They meet my expectations and anyone who gets this set will be really satisfied with it.

This is a great, inexpensive way to get started with carbide turning tools. I’m going to purchase a second one rather than a backup set of replacement tips. Well worth the price.

Overall I am very happy with this product. The only complaint I have is I received this item and there was not screw included to attach the cutter to the shaft. I emailed WEN support, but never heard from them. I had already ordered a replacement set of cutters from WEN directly and there were 2 screws included with that set of cutters. I’ve only used the square cutter so far. It does a really nice job with smooth cuts. The cutters are very well sharpened out of the box and I like that the one handle can use different cutter heads. I used to tool for both bowls & pens so far. It is sturdy and the handle is comfortable. There have been no issues with the screw loosening. The shaft is decent length. Best part is the price. Very inexpensive and the replacement cutters are much cheaper than any other carbide heads.

Love the tool, but can’t lay in down on a table because it will roll off. Need to find a different design for the handle, other than that it works like a dream.

Used it on nylon and it works great.

Great wood handle with high polish steel tool holder. The bits are sharp and lock in to the index slots for a firm hold. The inclusion of the set of four different carbide bits makes this tool a steal for the price.

This was my first carbide chisel. The rest of my tools are HSS. I bought it to help finish my projects and reduce sanding, but I’m finding I’m using it more and more as my primary shaping tool. My only problem is now I want two so I don’t have to change tips as much haha.
