This 18.5 inch Indexable Wood Turning Chisel is absolutely perfect. It comes with 4 Carbide precision cutter tips that positively index 90 degrees. The ergonomically-crafted 18.5 inch tool feels has great reach and is super versatile. If your cutting edge gets dull simply rotate the cutter tip for a new edge. This set includes 4 different shapes of tungsten carbide cutter tips in round, square, diamond and arc. I needed to make a new spacer disc for my router as the original was nearly 1/32″ below my router table surface. I used HDF mounted on a spindle in my lathe chuck with the diamond insert and it cut precisely and like butter. Almost too sharp if you know what I mean. The 12 in. wood handle fits better than any other handle I have from my Grandfathers antique set to my new WEN set. And you can easily order a set of the WEN CH016R Indexable Cutters which I intend to do soon, just in case. If you happen to have a diamond sharpening tool you can even re-sharpen the cutters yourself. Turn in comfort and safely my friend.

This lathe chisel is surprisingly well made for a company not usually known for lathe tools. It has a hardwood handle that is approximately 12 1/2″ and overall length is 18 3/4″. It comes with a selection of carbide bits that are extremely sharp and long wearing. They are interchangeable and are easily attached to the tip of the lathe tool with a star or Torx head screw for which a torx bit is included. The tool comes in a sturdy cardboard box that is quite adequate for storing the tool between uses. The shaft is a polished stainless steel that is smooth and without burrs. The shaft is secured to the handle and has a brass ferrule to prevent damage to the wood. It cuts through hardwood with ease, just having turned a bowl of Rosewood with it. It cuts smoothly and almost glides through the hardwood grain like it was butter. The long lasting carbide blades are replaceable if and when they ever wear out.

Simply beautiful. My first set of carbide turning chisels. Pro: Nicely finished wooden handle is about 2 inches longer than the handles on my high speed steel chisels. Carbide tips are easily attached/detached with the torx driver included with the set. Torx driver is well engineered to be compact yet give good grip and leverage. Each carbide tip can be rotated to a new edge up to 4 times. Tips cut clean and fast on hard and soft woods in my tests. Plastic tip case leaves plenty of room for adding new tips. Con: None come to mind.
