For those looking to move up from an abrasive cutoff saw (with its attendant sparks, dust, and heat) to a clean cutting carbide metal cutting saw, this tool provides a reasonable choice. Supplied with a 66 tooth, 14-inch blade, this saw will cut steel tube, bar stock and rebar with relative ease. The cuts are clean, and the swarf (chips) are easier to sweep up than the fine dust generated by abrasive saws. This saw, at just under 50 pounds, is easily moved to where it is needed and the 0-to-45-degree miter adjustment, along with the saw’s capacities (½ inch plate, 4 ¾ inch square tube, 3 ¾ in x 7 ¼ inch rectangular tube and 5 ¼ inch round tube) will satisfy the needs of the majority of users. Except for the hand-wheel spinner knob (shipped loose for user attachment) the saw arrives complete and ready to use. The lack of a “quick adjust” feature on the movable vise jaw makes the spinner handle earn its keep, however, due to the loose thread fit, once backed out more than half of the adjustment range there is some binding of the thread. Also shipped loose (along with a spare set of carbon brushes) is a two-position adapter which slips over the movable jaw to provide a secure grip on round or angle stock. Adjustment of the miter angle (as well as the rear jaw position) requires loosening two screws with the supplied 8 mm hex key (also used for blade replacement). Unfortunately, no provision (such as a clip) is provided to stow the key when not in use, though to add one would not be difficult. The depth of cut is adjustable but requires 13 mm and 14 mm end wrenches (which are Not supplied). A chain, secured at both ends, is used to secure the saw in the down position, when transporting from site to site or when not in use. An anchor stud is provided to slip one of the chain links over after lowering the saw. The “D” handle contains the blade trigger and trigger lock with the locking button positioned for one’s thumb (if right-handed). The saw is warranteed for 2 years or 500 hours of use (90 days if used commercially). With a measured starting current (no load) of 13.5 to 15.1 amps, requiring any extension cord to be sized accordingly. When adjusted to 90 (0) degrees on the provided indicator, the actual vise to blade angle was measured to be 89.9 to 90.2 degrees and the blade to table angle measured 89.8 degrees. When cutting 2-inch tube at an indicated 45-degree miter, the actual cut angle was measured to be 44.9 degrees. I used the saw to cut 2-inch x 0.065-inch wall tube, 1 inch x 1/8-inch wall square tube and #5 rebar (5/8 inch). In all cases the cuts were clean and accurate (within the above limits) with minimal sparking. As no swarf tray is provided to catch the chips, some kind of back stop or curtain is needed if used in the shop, but the lack of hot sparks minimizes the chances of ignition. The user manual contains conflicting information, at odds with the stated function of the saw and in disagreement with the table of specification on page 3. These include: Max blade speed of 3800 RPM (specified in table as 1400 RPM and measured to be 1340 RPM, no load); Max blade diameter as 12 inches (specified in the table correctly as 14 inches); A caution not to use metal cutting blades or to use for cutting metal (when this is a metal cutting saw); Reference to “slide cutting” (which is not possible with a fixed pivot chop saw); as well as a few typos throughout. While there is an attempt at humor in the unpacking instructions, more effort is needed to proofread the content (which was apparently cut-and-pasted from another product). All in all, as long as the slight impreciseness is acceptable for your use and you favor the “D” Handle configuration (it is extremely comfortable for a right-handed person), this saw merits serious consideration.

Very impressive saw, exactly what I need for cutting metal. The first things I noticed were the size and smooth movement of this saw. The 14 inch blade is big. The pivoting motion is very smooth and automatically moves the blade guard to completely encircle the blade when the blade is in the up position and to automatically expose the blade when the handle is in the down position. As shown in the photographs, the saw comes equipped with a metal cutting blade. The saw also comes with an attachment to the clamp that securely holds metal shapes such as the large angle shown in the photographs. The clamp moves into position quickly with the hand crank really gripped the angle, as shown in the photos. I have another chop saw that I bought years ago to cut metal. I am now giving that saw to local group that recycles tools to other people because this new saw is clearly superior. Highly recommend this saw.

I have always associated Wen with smaller tools, but this certainly jumps out of that category. This is a very well-built and well thought-out saw with a 14″ diameter blade. The 1600 RPM blade works plenty fast, but doesn’t throw chips around as much as my 4500 RPM one does. The horizontal handle/switch seems much more natural than the older-style vertical handle. A couple of nice accessories are included – the allen wrench to move the angle fence, and an adapter for round stock that just slips over the pressure plate. The adapter is good down to 3/8″ dia. stock (if you use a spacer block), so it’s very useful. An extra set of brushes are included as well. The included blade is quite thin (I measured the width of the slot I cut in a piece of 3/16″ stock at 0.111″), and does wobble a bit. When I cut too slowly, the slot widened to 0.123″. A couple of minor cons: There is no storage place for the allen wrench or the round material adapter, and the hold-down chain is a couple of links shorter than I would like to see. It’s a bit more difficult to hold the chain and lock the head down than it should be. These cons are very minor compared to the overall quality of the saw

I recently received the WEN 15 AMP 14 IN. MULTI-MATERIAL CUT-OFF CHOP SAW WITH CARBIDE-TIPPED METAL-CUTTING SAW BLADE. I’m very pleased with this saw, I have to cut a 4″ sewer pipe to make predator guards for bird nest. With 12″ chop saw I have I can not cut through the pipe. I can cut clean threw this pie with this 14″ blade. The carbide blade goes through it like butter. I would highly recommend this saw to anyone needing a chop saw
