If you are looking for a good, sturdy chop saw, this might just be the saw for you. Since almost all the cutting I do with my compound miter saw is at 90 degrees, this is the perfect solution to lugging my old saw with me. While I deal mostly with wood (which this saw handles admirably) I like having a saw that can deal with metal when I need to, especially since I have to some work that involves cutting metal conduit. It is powerful and fairly compact, easy to stick in my van when I need to work away from home given its relatively small footprint. The included V clamp makes this saw a perfect tool for cutting round items, like doweling and metal and PVC tubes, as well as angle iron; just being able to do doweling as easily as it does is a game changer for me. It has a capacity to hold large items (up to about 5 inches vertically) and the included blade makes smooth cuts. The saw itself is heavy (about 60-65 lbs) and doesn’t vibrate or ‘walk’ while making cuts. For repetitive cuts it is a great tool and coupled with a miter saw stand, or roller stands, it works extremely well.On the negative side, adjusting miter cuts is challenging: moving the fence to do requires loosening both a hold down lever and a hex nut (the hex wrench has a convenient on-board storage location) but requires more effort than it should; however, once set it is rock solid and does not require constant readjustment. Setting depth of cut (if you need to) is also cumbersome, requiring adjusting a bolt that acts as a stop. These negatives might become easier to do as the saw is broken in. Despite these issues, overall it is a nice saw for rough work.

The WEN 14 inch metal cutoff / chop saw is well made and heavy duty. The saw comes with a vice cover to accurately hold tubing and pipe and an extra set of carbon brushes for the motor. I cut through a piece of 2 inch angle iron and a piece of pipe with ease. There is also a 1 1/2 inch dust collection port and collection tray. It comes equipped with a 14 inch 66 tooth blade made for mild steel and I had no problem cutting through either of the pieces I tested the saw on.

I have been using WEN blades on my dry cut saw for a few years. My saw bit the dust so I got a WEN. Their saw is every bit as good as their blades. The saw it’s self is very substantial, it stays where you put it and doesn’t move around when operating. The motor has great torque and operates smoothly. I did a test cut on some one inch square tubing I had on hand and the saw cuts well without bogging down. The clamping mechanism is very stout and has an attachment for clamping round material. The saw comes with a manufacturer two year limited warranty, I hope this saw lasts as long as my last saw did.

So far it’s been a good chopsaw I have used it cutting mainly 2×2 14ga tube steel and a little 1/8″ angle. If you are cutting angles you need to check the degrees with a square make sure the clamp doesn’t change it while tightening your material down. It’s definitely a time saver compared to a horizontal bandsaw or portaband.

For those interested in the country of origin, this product was manufactured in CHINA.This unit weighs 60 pounds, comes with a stable iron base, and can be easily transported as the saw arm locks into place in a compressed fashion.Great benefit in that the blade is shielded in its case when the arm is in the upright position, thereby avoiding potential damage to the blade.Detriment is that the angle guide is not totally exact (off by a couple of degrees), is cumbersome to adjust, and the guide markings are either 0 degrees or 45 degrees, not gradual in between. You would need to build your own angle jib if those cuts are common and usual. But this is a chop saw so fine tuned cuts will not be the common cut, but the exceptional.Benefit in that the clamping system comes with an attachment to better secure round objects.Cut wood, plastic, and copper easily. Did not compress the copper or put it out of round. There is a collection basin the length of the blade pit to catch and easily discard waste from cuts.
