The WEN variable speed handheld oscillating spindle sander has a 5 Amp motor which should handle all of you needs. The spindle oscillates between 50 to 90 times per minute, with adjustable speed that can be set anywhere from 1800 to 3200 RPM. The kit includes these sanding sleeves (1/2 in., 3/4 in., 1 in., and 1-1/2 in.) and 3 rubber drums (3/4 in., 1 in., and 1-1/2 in. It includes two clamps to mount on any sturdy surface. A little rigging and dust collection is a breeze. Wish I’d had this many years ago, it is so handy! I had looked at a different brand and at three times the price I could not justify it. The first job it received was to “adjust” a couple tenons that were cut too long.

WEN 5 Amp Corded Variable Speed Portable Oscillating Spindle Sander is compact in size that takes spindles up to 1 1/2-inches in diameter. It lacks the base and larger work table found on other sanders of this type and instead comes with an anti-slip mat and two clamps to attach it to the edge of the workbench. This setup is well done, feels secure and solid. Personally, I like dual use tools that can be bench mounted. They may not be ideal in all situations, but the alternate setup comes in handy rather than not having it. This sander takes little room and can be stored in a draw unlike other larger ones, but there is a trade-off.This sander is firstly portable and can be used without attaching it to the workbench. Freehand it comes with an edge guide that steady’s it on the work and minimizes kickback. You hold it with both hands securely against wood edges after setting the sanding depth with the guide. An example of its use are on doors, table top edges or furniture curves. The sandpaper spindle is three inches in length so it will work on edges a little less than that in thickness. I found in using it freehand, the straight edges are the easiest to control. It weighs five pounds and has some vibration at a top speed of 3200 RPM. Also, it does get hot so take breaks when it happens. When used on the workbench the sander is as you’d expect. This is best for smaller work, rest the piece on the tool’s narrow top end and feed it in slowly just touching the sanding sleeve. For best results let the sandpaper do the work. The sleeve osculates up and down about a 1/4-inch, and spins round. It works best for sanding shaped surfaces where other straight sanders can’t get into corners and curves, especially with the small 1/2-inch sleeve size that would previously be done with hand sanding. Other uses for the sander are cleaning up and removing saw marks, sanding curves to a pencil mark guide line. The sandpaper sleeves are good quality and I found Home Depot sells twelve count packs in a three grit combo on their site. Using the largest 1 1/2-inch sleeve with the tool’s five amp motor is easily handled. The sleeves can be changed quickly by loosening the locking nut on the end of the mounting shaft. Then put in the appropriate size rubber drum spindle diameter, slip the sandpaper sleeve over it and tighten it all finger tight.I have several WEN sanders, they are made with a lot of plastic, but the design is good and hold up just fine. This one should be as dependable as those others. WEN is an excellent brand name for sanders, offer a wide range, products are reasonably priced and a good value. For those that don’t need a spindle sander with a large base this one will do

This tool is doing what I needed it to do. The clamp set-up works well on my work bench. The variable speed setting is easy to control and gets you to the right speed. I have used it more jobs than I had intended. It might be good to have some bigger size drums and maybe some finer sanding sleeves.

Nice sander at a good price. Can be used hand held or clamped to a table. I did have one minor issue with the 1 1/2′ drum not fitting properly over the spindle but Wen customer service resolved it very quickly for me. I am pleased.

I would have given 5 stars, however the extra sleeves for just this unit doesn’t exist. I purchased along with this, the sanding sleeves for the Internet #207165313 Model # 6510SPC which are 4.5 inches, which I will need to cut down to fit, also was disappointed that it didn’t have a 2 inch sanding drum. So I purchased a 2 X 4.5 inch directly from WEN, and I will cut it down to fit the unit, and will also modify the unit to accept the 2 inch drum and sleeve. As long as this unit hold up, I believe this is a really good deal for anyone shop with limited space, that a bench top or floor unit would take up too much room. I have used it a couple of time, and like other reviews, 1~3 speed is more than enough..

The sander was very easy to mount and use on my workbench. Doesn’t take up much room like a full-size one would.
