This dowel bucket has great variety and the count of them is good to have on hand. The dowels are 1/4″, 3/8″ and 5/16″ diameter which is about all I use for wood work. Length is 1-1/4″ except for the 3/8″ which is 1-1/8″. They are made of a tough wood and fit nicely into drill holes when I glue them. The end result is a strong joint. If you work with dowels, this is a bucket you want to have around. They tend to get used up fast.

The variety bucket contains 200 1/4 inch, 100 5/16 inch, and 100 3/8″ fluted dowels. The 1/4 inch is 1.13 inch long, 5/16 inch is 1.50 inch long, and the 3/8 inch is 1.50 inch long. The flutes are wide and deep to hold glue while inserting the dowel. A matched size drill to dowel does provide some resistance, so the fit is not loose. The dowel is a rigid wood after trimming the dowel flush to the surface with a hand saw. The dowel and glue with conventional clamping provides a strong connection. An angled dowel and glue connection can provide a strong, no clamp, exterior-visible connection with sufficient locations. Good alternative to pocket screw connection in plywood. Withstood tapping angled into place without damaged ends. Convenient with useful size selection in a single container. Unfortunately, photos still cannot be loaded using Firefox.

The assortment in this bucket is wonderful. There are 4 bins to separate the sizes and you can snap the top on for secure storage. When opening the bucket, for the first time, make sure to cut off the plastic clips otherwise you could end up having to pick up a couple hundred dowels. I did make this mistake, so fair warning. The dowels have a consistent size and are made out of wood that has little defects and very few soft spots. This is a nice addition to any wood workers shop!

WEN 400-piece Dowel Pin SetThis 400-piece Fluted Dowel Pin Variety Bucket from WEN comes with 3 different sized dowel pins. The bucket is divided into four compartments. First you get 2 compartments filled with 3/8-inch diameter dowel pins having a length of 1-1/2 inches, each of those 2 compartments hold 50 dowel pins each. Then you have the third compartment holding 100 pieces of 5/16 inch diameter dowel pins and having a length of 1-1/2 inches. In the fourth compartment you have 200 pieces of 1/4 inch diameter dowel pins having a 1-1/8 inch length. (While the photo of the label may say otherwise, I have been told it has been corrected after I had contacted the company.)Having used fluted dowel pins as well as the spiral shaped dowel pins, my favorite is the fluted design. They just seem to have a tighter grip when your putting two pieces of wood together, plus excess glue has an easier way to escape along the ridges of the dowel pin. These dowel pins are made from birch, so they are very durable and I like the container that they are stored in, it makes it very convenient to store and use as needed.
