The 1-5/8 in. MT2 Tailstock Live Center for Wood Lathes is another terrific addition to my wood lathe accessories. It provides firm support to your turning blanks from the tailstock end of your work. It runs true and accurate leaving only a pinpoint mark on the turning blank. The taper allows good tool access to that end of the work piece. It’s good for both spindle and bowl blank turnings.

WEN Live Center is a Huge Step Up over using a Dead Tailstock Center. Fit in my Rockwell Delta production lathe perfectly. Lined up with Headstock center perfectly. Nicely machined and finished.Great value for the price.Any home woodworker will find this a great option for turning wood, composites or metal.

SUMMARY: A NICE LIVE CENTER THAT MAY NEED A LITTLE TWEAKING TO WORK PROPERLY.BACKGROUND: I have 5 lathes. The chance to try out the WEN live center was too good to pass up. FIT AND FINISH: This 60 degree cone, morse 2 taper, dual bearing live center looks beastly. It is solid and heavy in your hand. The machined surfaces look good. The bearings run quiet and true. OPERATION: The MT2 snugged into the tailstock as good as any of my other centers. It was quiet and smooth while turning a small piece of stock. However, I noticed after a few minutes that the bearing retaining nut had unscrewed. I tightened it down with a small scratch awl and resumed turning, but a few minutes later it had unscrewed again. At that point I dismounted the blank, removed the center, cleaned the oil from the spanner nut, applied some Locktite 242 blue thread lock to the nut, reassembled the unit, and set it aside to cure. The next day I remounted it and turned for about 5 minutes with no further problem. SUMMARY: Works well after fixing retaining nut.PROS: Sturdy, quiet, ruggedCONS: Loose retaining nut

The WEN MT2 Live Center, measuring in at 1-5/8 in. diameter, is a versatile live center that helps craftsmen meet the needs of a variety of turning applications. The internal ball bearings provide a very smooth, concentric ride for the workpiece. The MT2 taper allows for compatibility with most of the wood and metal lathe tail stocks. I have installed this live center on two of my medium-size lathes, which I used for machining both metal and wood components. While the lathes are primarily designed for metalworking, they work very well with extreme hardwoods and the WEN life Center. I found that the run out for the center was exceptionally small, on the order of <.0001 inches. This is a high quality product that will serve the craftsman well for many years.

The mass is significant and should make for sturdy support to any projects.
