This is a keyed chuck for drill bit sizes from 1mm to 13mm. In inches, it is stated at being able to hold up to 1/2 inch diameter drill bits. This WEN chuck includes a nice sized key for it. It has a 3-jaw chuck and it holds multiple sizes of drill bits evenly and securely. When not in use, there is no need to carefully wrap it for protection because a handy plastic case is included. I discovered that the key also fits inside the storage case alongside the chuck and arbor taper.

I ordered this WEN 1/2” keyed drill chuck for my bench top lathe. I do small jobs on the lathe so I don’t need anything too heavy duty. The MT1 taper fit perfectly in my tailstock. To my surprise, I also had an adapter to use this chuck in my Bridgeport mill. Now, I wouldn’t use this chuck for any heavy hogging through harder metals on the mill, but for woods and softer metals, it is great. I did check it for wobble and there was none. It accepts drill sizes up to 1/2” and the chuck key is included. Works great for the smaller jobs and will fit other size Morse taper with adapters. Nice quality for the price point. Exactly what I expected.

WEN, they have been making tools since 1951, 1951 at amazing good prices. I was astounded at the price point on this chuck The quality is unsurpassed, stellar, beyond reproach. If you looking for replacement, or need a new chcuk, look no further than Wen, Made in The US, how many compnoies can state that, and then a price that kicks the competition in the privates. have had Wens in the past, they never failed, chuck jaws stayed tight, their movement was smooth, gret for Lathe work. BUY< BUY< BUY. The chuick was packed well, quality all the way around.

This keyed drill chuck by Wen is a great addition to any lathe with an MT1 arbor taper such as the Wen 3420T or 3421. The package includes the chuck and the corresponding chuck key. The action on the chuck was smooth and alignment was true. The maximum bit size it can accommodate is 1/2 inch. For my test I used the drill chuck in the tailstock of my Wen 3420 with the 4-Inch 4-Jaw Self-Centering Lathe Chuck in the headstock. I then put some scrap wood into the 4 inch jaw and a drill bit into the drill chuck. There was no wobble of the drill bit and it drilled dead center as one would expect and need a lathe to do. Overall I am very pleased with this addition to my Wen lathe.

This is a very nice 1/2” drill chuck with a JT6 to Morse #1 taper. This chuck will also fit all other Morse tapers if they have the JT6 taper on the opposite end. This chuck comes with the Morse #1 taper but you can open the chuck end and tap on the taper to make it release from the chuck, use a softer material for your drift, something like brass. The fit and finish is excellent on both the chuck and the taper. The chuck will handle all straight shank drill bits that range from 0.7mm to 13mm (1/32” to 1/2”). The chuck lists 1mm to 13mm but it will handle just a bit smaller and larger than stated. The chuck and taper comes with a standard chuck key, that looks like it is black nitrate coated to resist rusting. The drill chuck jaws come with a good coating of heavy oil, so it’s a good idea to run them in and out a few times cleaning them up the before first spin up. Overall this is a very nice chuck and taper, with nice smooth machining throughout.
