Nicely machined, smooth operation, great for small turning tasks but has annoying clacking noise (see video review). This 2.75” chuck is a nice addition to my Nova G3 chuck and it handles sizes the Nova does not. It is nicely constructed and provides good firm hold on delicate materials. But at lower turning speeds it makes a clicking noise as some internal part rattles around. It doesn’t affect operation but it makes you think something is off. It seems fairly priced and in line with competitors at $84 (at the time of this review). B minus rating. About my rating:5 stars – Exceeds all expectations. Better than the competition in all aspects, design, cost, operation, and support (A+). 4 stars – Nicely done. Better than the competition and solves the problem. (B)3 stars – Works as expected. Has some shortcomings but gets the job done. Might be short in design, cost, longevity, or support. (C).2 stars – Falls short of expectations and needs improvement. Pass and look elsewhere. (D)1 star – Fails miserably. Does not get the job done, might even make things worse. Someone at the company should be fired. (F)

After getting a new Wen lathe there was one more accessory I needed – the chuck set. Besides turning, longer pieces, I decided that I wanted to turn bowls, which require turning from the front of the piece – not the side. This is the only way your task can be accomplished, by holding it from the bottom and turning from the front. It works great!

Jaws open and close smoothly and provide a strong grip on the material. The workmanship, fit, precision, and quality are quite good. Very happy with this chuck.

The Wen 2.75 inch 4-Jaw Self Centering Chuck is a great addition to a variety of woodworking lathes that use the 1 inch x 8 TPI mount. I tested the chuck with the Wen 3420 8 inch x 12 inch woodworking lathe. The chuck action had smooth action as it opened and closed and it gripped the wood well. The chuck is opened and closed with a square key that is included. It also includes a M3 Hex Wrench for tightening hex screws on the chuck. In addition there is a bolt you can screw into your piece of wood and clamp the chuck down on the end of the bolt instead of directly on your work piece. Internal grip range is 1-1/2 inch to 2-1/8 inch.External grip range is 1-1/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch.Out of the box, the chuck was ready to use with all screws tight and no visible defects.

Just what I needed for turning small things. I am new at turning. This chuck will hold pen blanks in the jaws below the curved jaws, and it holds larger blanks for finials and candle sticks in the curved jaws. It screws into my WEN 1” x 8TPI beautifully.

The Wen 4 jaw chuck works exactly as advertised. It is exactly what I’ve come to expect from a “Wen” product. No problems, and great quality!

This WEN chuck is ideal for your smaller turning projects. It has a beefy feel (didn’t weigh it) feels like two pounds. Includes all the necessary wrenches and hex key for fine tuning. It will fit any lathe with a standard threaded head stock. Any project up to 2 and three quarter inches will fit in the jaws. The machine work on this is great; the workings are smooth.

I like this heavy duty wood lathe which has the maximum versatility which can be very useful for all projects with all kind of shapes with this the WEN 4 in. 4-Jaw Self-Centering Keyed Chuck. The chuck which features dovetailed jaws, allowing you to grip the outside of stock between 1.6 in. to 2.8 in. in size, or to hold internal pilot holes ranging from 2 in. to 3.2 in.I also like the included screw chuck for additional features. The tool is very well made and is very durable

Solid construction. Chuck holds the wood very well and tightens/loosens with ease.

It’s not bad for small projects. Bigger ones it gets thrown off pretty easily when you get a catch. But it’s a good starter but I would progress up to a bigger one if you can
