Good product , i am a new hobbiest and love this chuck , its well built and very easy to set up . Would be 5 stars if it were a single way to tighten it harder to close the jaws on the product with one hand

This chuck is a valuable addition for owners of a wood lathe that has a one inch spindle with eight threads per inch. By rotating a ring on the chuck using the two included rods, the chuck jaws can be opened or closed. Although the chuck will normally be used to grip a round or square work piece from the outside it can also be used to expand and grip a work piece that has a gripping hole. Each jaw is designed with two gripping surfaces for holding the outside of the work piece and two gripping surfaces for expanding inside a hole on the work piece. When gripping the work piece from the outside, the chuck will grip from 3/8 inch up to 2 3/4 inches. If a hole is drilled in the work piece, the hole can range from from two to four inches in diameter, so the maximum size that can be turned is limited only by the swing of the lathe. Besides wood, I have used the chuck in my wood lathe to turn down PVC fitting to make adapters for my above ground pool.Because the jaws open in unison rather than individually, the chuck grips round or square parts easily. To grip rectangular or irregular stock, spacers must be used between one or more jaws. The chuck also comes with a sturdy screw that can be mounted in the work and then held by the chuck.

The Chuck works well however the Chuck wrenches provided with the Chuck are subpar craftsmanship, the handles do not tighten onto the rods and are not useable as they were received. The Chuck wrenches present a safety issue if used.

The quality of construction on the chuck is very good and you certainly get what you pay for. However, after purchasing I regretted not buying the next model up because of the availability of additional attachments.

This is a pretty good little no-frills chuck for woodworking on the lathe. It is not my favorite design–I prefer a keyed chuck like https://www.homedepot.com/p/WEN-2-75-in-4-Jaw-Self-Centering-Keyed-Lathe-Chuck-Set-with-1-in-x-8TPI-Thread-LA4275/308758972, so you can hold your work piece with one hand and tighten the chuck with the other. With this chuck, you need both hands to tighten the chuck. But that said, this chuck does the trick, providing a decent hold for things like bowls and plates that you might want to turn on your lathe.

I have not used this type of chuck as I do not turn wood very often so my only minor complaint is the lack of instructions. Other than that this is a high quality chuck that was purchased for about 35-40 percent cheaper than anywhere else I could find it. Fit perfectly on my Delta lathe. Shipping time from HD was fast and free as usual. I spent quite a bit of time researching and there are chucks with more features but double in price.

It doesn’t hold as well as i would like. The system for tightening the chuck could be improved. But it wasnt expensive so……

I’ve used this chuck to turn a few small bowls and hold pen blanks for drilling. It’s a good fit for the Wen 8×12 Lathe.
