What I like about multipurpose vises is their flexibility and this vise delivers. The cross cut jaws open to 5” (4⅞” with stop) and there are also pipe jaws. The base swivels 360° as do the jaws. I like these swivel options not only for the convenience of being able to move the work piece, but also to get the vise out of my way when I’m not using it. The swiveling jaws also provide unobstructed use of the anvil. While there is an angle measure, there’s no marker to ensure the vice is perfectly at 0° degrees. Not a big deal though. Being able to flip the thing over to use the pipe jaws is great, and I can also hold work pieces perpendicular to the bench. Installation was easy enough although there are no instructions or hardware included. There are three 12mm mounting holes and I used 9/16” bolts, washers, and nuts to secure it to the bench. Of course I had to work around the Swiss cheese holes left from vises in my past. A manual also would have been nice for a parts list as I’m sure eventually I will need new cross cut jaws. The Anvil is only 2½” x 3⅜”, which is small, although I’ll rarely use it. The edges of it are also a bit unrefined and there’s a small piece missing from the cast. No big deal. This vise does not have quick release so I like to see how fast I can get it open or closed. The ruler definitely helps to open the jaws just right without wasted effort.. This thing is made of steel and feels well built. Overall, I’m very pleased with it and everything it has to offer.

I’m very happy with this vice and the quality of the machining. If you search online, you will find several very similar vises but with different brand names. This is the one to buy. All of the levers work well, in particular the main clamp which travels very smoothly both opening and closing. I bought this one and returned another one that looked almost identical but had a different brand name. The one I returned was poorly machined – the moving parts were sloppy, and would bind when I tried to open or close the vice. I’m puzzled why two look very similar but only one works well.

Very nice vise. Clamps uniformly and when in position after rotating or swiveling is very stiff and stationary. I have used it to hold bolt stock for threading and also aluminum plate for cutting. When clamp the rotation along the long axis becomes very rigid as the clamping force stiffens the vise. The action is smooth as tighten the vise. The vise base is for 1/2 inch bolts. Has a graduated dial around the rotating horizontal axis.

I know you get what you pay for but based on other reviews I thought this would be better…..I have the exact same thing at work but it’s a Wilton and the differences in quality are significant. This is sloppy and loose and even the tape that tells the degrees of rotation is almost 10° off. Pretty much pointless at that point 🙂 Will this be a hinderance to the average weekend warrior? No. Will I one day buy a Wilton to replace this? Yes. But it will get me by for the time being.

5-Inch Heavy-Duty Cast Iron Multi-Purpose Bench Vise with 360-Degree Swivel Base – This vise is nice; I especially like the rotating jaw head. The castings are good and the powder coat finish is great. I did put some light grease on the moving parts which now move much easier and smoother. With its 5500 lbs. clamping pressure it securely holds most parts or materials for grinding, cutting etc.A few recommended improvements are adding a fourth mounting hole and another 10 or more pounds of mass; at 32 lbs. this vise is a little light. Finally, the anvil face could be larger for more room pounding on bigger things.All-in-all, this vise will suit most of my needs.

It’s a good vise. The movable jaws are a definite plus. Grease it up some to get it nice and smooth. This is a lifetime purchase.

The WEN 5 in. Bench vise is very well made and has a wealth of adjustments. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that the band with graduated markings between the anvil and the vise portion is misaligned. Otherwise it’s exactly what I expected.

This vise is huge. It weighs in at 30 pounds. Overall height is 9 inches. Overall depth is 16-1/2 inches. The jaw can be rotated from the standard serrated flat 5 inches jaws on top to the pipe holder on top. The thumb screw sets the position, and when the vise is tightened the rotating jaw is tightened even more in place. The flat jaw is almost 5 inches wide and opens to almost 5 inches deep. The painted finish is very durable. A very strong professional product.

Has some manufacturing flaws. Tension bolt on the side of the unit will strip easily if you tighten it to much. Spindle has some play. So in other words I had to tear it apart add a nylon washer and rethread the tension bolt since this item doesn’t qualify for a return. So SOL.
