The Wen 16 pc. Ratcheting metric combination wrench set really gives competitor (gearwrench) a run for its money in quality. When I compared the two competitor’s product, I have to say the Wen came out on top in the cosmetic quality area. My limited functional testing resulted in no significant performance difference between the two competitors. Depending upon the seller, there seems to be as much as a 20% price difference making the Wen even more attractive. The Wen combination wrench set (WR161M) consists of 16 wrenches ranging in size from 7mm to 22mm with no skipped sizes. The box end is 12 point and features a 72-tooth internal ratcheting feature allowing for as little as a 5-degree swing to engage the next tooth making ease of work for fasteners located in tight spaces. One nice feature that the Wen has that gearwrench does not is that the open end has a generous lead in (see photo) allowing you to engage the fastener quicker. The ratcheting insert does differ from competitors (see photos) with slightly less of a bevel but I found no noticeable performance difference when testing. The wrenches are made from chrome vanadium steel, heat treated and highly polished. The wrenches carry a full lifetime warranty, but claims must have place, date, model of wrench purchased along with a photo of the issue sent to Wen. So, recommend that you scan your receipt. The Wens are a really nice set of wrenches, comparable with competitors and at a better price point. They come in a handy roll up storage pouch that takes up more room on the peg board than a plastic carry rack but travels much better. Well worth a look, recommended.

Let me qualify this by saying I am not a professional mechanic but in my younger days I was always under the hood of cars and spent some years in construction. So I consider myself an above average handyman. Let me start by saying this feels to be good quality, each wrench has some heft to it and a real nice finish (a high polish). A good sturdy full size metric combination wrench. They come in a quality rubberized canvas roll pouch that rolls up nice and won’t fall out of. A good wrench set should be a staple of anyone’s tools and these are the kind of tools that you end up passing down to your kids. And on top of everything WEN says, “if any of your wrenches ever break, just notify us and we’ll provide a replacement” how do you beat that?My honest opinion is that if you are reading this review you are shopping for a real nice set of good sturdy full size metric combination wrenches these will be a good choice. Without hesitation I say it met or exceeded all my expectations and requirements.

When I was a kid, I had an English bike. I went to take the wheel off and none of Dad’s wrenches fit. Being a kid that hardly slowed me down. There were crescent wrenches and pliers. I’m so old we didn’t have vice grips back then. When I was done the nuts looked like beavers chewed on them. I was the kind of kid who didn’t care. I was fine with that. Just so the bike ran. When Dad got home I told him about it and he told me those were metric bolts. 30 years later, in the 80s, we got a machine at work from Germany. They had to get a special tool box with metric tools just for that machine and everybody had to share them. So not much later metric fasteners were everywhere and everybody has to have their own metric tools. Recently, putting a steel canopy together in my yard there were some bolts and the only way to tighten them was with a tiny metric wrench that came with the canopy kit. I could have used a metric box ratchet in that tiny space and it would have made the job a lot easier. So I was glad to get this WEN WR161M 16-Piece Professional-Grade Ratcheting Metric Combination Wrench Set with Storage Rack. They look good and have a nice action. They’re nicely marked with the size easy to read. There’s a short movement between ratchet clicks so you get maximum throw when working in tight spaces. I counted 72 clicks in one revolution of the ratchet. That makes 5 degrees per click. They’re a good length, you get some leverage when final torquing with the open-end.. They may be too long in some situations. Everything has advantages and disadvantages. The carrying pouch, what the manufacturer calls a rack, is heavy duty and well made. I generally don’t use those pouches, just put the wrenches in a drawer. But this one is so nice I’ll be using it. It can be rolled up and secured with a Velcro strap or it can be hung by the grommets attached to it. Hanging it is useful when these are used in a shared shop or a training facility because the instructor can tell at a glance if they have all been returned at the end of the class or workday. Nobody goes home until the missing one is found. Wen is an old company. They put their name on the tools proudly. These are made in Taiwan, which to me usually indicates a higher quality than tools made in China. So if you’re looking to upgrade your selection of metric tools this is a great addition to your collection. Then your nuts won’t look like a beaver chewed on them.

I like this wrench set. The wrenches are comfortable to hold. They are well constructed. The chrome finish seams to be heavy enough that you are not going to scratch through it easily. The wrenches fit well. They used good quality steel, so the wrenches are not going to deform when you work them hard. The wrenches come in the usual rollup, with the expected grommets to hang it. But instead of the cloth ties, it has a velcro strap that holds it closed.

Until a year or two ago I was not really acquainted with the WEN brand. Since then I’ve come to be consistently pleased with the quality of the products I’ve seen from them. And these wrenches are no exception. This is a very nice set with sizes spanning a very wide range. The lifetime warranty says a lot about the quality. I have another set of ratcheting wrenches by a well known top brand tool maker and there were less than half this number in the set. (They were more middle of the pack sizes.) These compare very well with those. These have a fixed angle head with a ratcheting mechanism that reverses with a switch like a typical socket ratchet. While my others have a swiveling head you have to flip over to go between loosening and tightening. I can see this rigid head design being better in situations where you want more strength at an angle because the swiveling head has more of a tendency to slip off if you are not careful. The canvas case these come in a nice and they roll up into a well protected relatively compact package that does not take up a lot of room. It looks like some good thought went into putting the set together.

Strong and sturdy and durable for use with many uses especially with working on vehicles these days as every nut and bolt are metric even on US brand cars. The carrying and storage case makes it easy to keep in one place and to put in your work vicinity. I will caution individuals that with the flexible head these wrenches should not be used to break away bolts that are very tight or rusted as the flexible joint on the head is the week point and may break. I would recommend tradesman to carry this tool set.

I love their slogan. “Remember when you had wrenches that lasted?” I’ll tell you flat out. If you dont abuse these wrenches they should last a long time. One nice feature is the fully-polished chrome vanadium steel that makes for easy clean up. Another new feature is the flip ratchet lever to reverse directions instead of taking the wrench off the bolt and flipping it over. The set includes 16 different sized wrenches without skipping any sizes: 7 mm thru 22 mm wrenches. The 15-degree offset ratchet head is another improved feature. Also comes with a nice storage container for easy transport. Yup likely the last set of ratchet wrenches I’ll ever need..

I like these wrenches because they do at once what both an open-end wrench and a ratcheting socket wrench do separately. Working in tight spots where a socket wrench will not fit, a ratcheting wrench is so nice to use because it fits on a bolt and stays on a bolt while tightening or loosening. It is easier on the hands. The wrenches look like they are made of quality material and there is a lifetime guarantee with the manufacturer; however, I think intuitively these wrenches are made for light and medium-duty use and not heavy-duty use. I could be wrong but I could not see using a pipe on these wrenches (or a hammer) to get more applied torque to break a tight bolt free. Building something like a swing set would be a good use of the ratcheting end of these wrenches. Using them to remove flange bolts in plumbing applications or starter or alternator bolts when the bolts are seized will require the use of the open end side. Time will tell for me. The storage bag for the wrenches is nice but the wrenches fit loosely inside pocket pouches and while transporting the bag, I keep seeing a wrench or two slip out. I think the storage bag would be of better use with two straps to tie the bag up with. With just one strap, I find the bag to be not tight enough. I like the balance and feel of the wrenches in my hand. They have 12-point ratcheting box ends and the other end is a surface drive box open-end. Sizes go from 7 to 22 mm. The bottom line for me is the tool is well-made, useful, and guaranteed for life. Getting older, I like things that save wear and tear on my hands. This set does that. It also has value and will hold its value because of the guarantee. I like the way they handle and the way the ratcheting works. I will say these are a good set to have in your toolbox.

Being a DIYer, I’m always looking to add to my tool collection at home. I recently came across the Wen 16-Piece Professional-Grade Reversible Ratcheting Metric Combination Wrench Set with Storage Rack online. The one thing that caught my eye on these wrenches was the ratchet feature on the closed end. My ratchet set is usually my go to tool when tightening and loosening nuts and bolts, but there’s always the times when you have limited space and have to use a wrench and have to remove the wrench from the bolt with each turn. With the ratchet feature it eliminates that. This set comes with a smooth finish in every size from 7 mm to 22 mm in a convenient roll up storage sleeve. Each piece also comes with Wen’s lifetime guarantee for replacement of any piece that breaks, you can’t beat that. I highly recommend this set for any DIYer.

I received my 16 Piece Professional Grade Metric Combination Wrench Set. It came with a very nice storage pouch that has a velcro strap. This is the first time I have seen this brand. WEN has done a great job making these wrenches. They look amazing with the polished chrome finish. I like the 15 degree offset on the boxed in side. It makes it easier to get a good grip on it while tightening or loosening bolts and nuts. I will definitely be looking at other tools that WEN makes. I believe that anyone would be happy to own and use these wrenches. Plus they have a lifetime warranty.

This metric combination wrench set has 16 wrenches from 7mm to 22mm in 1mm increments. These well made heavy duty wrenches have their sizes clearly stamped in 4 places on each wrench. The polished chrome finish makes them easy to clean. The 12 point box end wrench has an angular offset (appears to be close to 15 degrees). The wrenches are stored in individual pouches in a synthetic canvas roll up secured by a loop and hook closure strap.

The thing that I like most about this Metric Combination Wrench Set is the heavy duty fabric roll pouch. My old combination wrench set has a plastic roll pouch and the plastic is cracking. When rolled out flat the new WEN pouch measured 26 inches wide by 16 inches tall when I measured it with my tape measure. I weighed the entire set, wrenches and pouch, on my postage scale and it weighs in at 5-3/8 pounds. I like the smooth mirror finish on the wrenches. I find that the smooth mirror finish is easier to clean compared to the sandblasted finish found on other combination wrench sets.

This review is on the WEN Model WR161M Professional Grade Ratcheting Metric Wrench Set. This is a 16 piece metric combination open end and closed ratcheting end set that includes every size from 7mm up to 22mm. This is a very good feature because most metric sets only give you the most commonly used sizes and if you do a lot of work with metric fasteners you will need one of those “uncommon” sizes on some jobs. This is a professional quality set and it has a heavy duty construction with a polished chrome finish. The ratcheting mechanism on these wrenches was smooth and had a nice positive engagement. This set has a lifetime warranty if you ever manage to break one of the wrenches. I also especially like the roll-up canvas pouch that saves space and allows you to roll it up like a small log or just fold it over into a more flattened shape. It reminds me of the old wrench sets that my father used when he was working as a professional mechanic. This metric set is perfect for those who work on foreign cars and the many other products made in countries outside the USA. In case you want to know where this is made … in Taiwan. Overall this is a very good ratcheting wrench set. Excellent quality, looks great and should last a lifetime!
