Its a hard drive, so its a little difficult to evaluate over the course of a few days. I used this to replace a failing drive in my RAID array on my main desktop computer. The drive after installation spun up, was immediately recognized, and went into service rebuilding my degraded arrray. No hiccups as far as I can tell. I did not run a SMART test first, so can’t comment from that perspective. One note, I bought the retail box version of this drive because the OEM version was not in stock and, ironically, the retail box version was slightly cheaper anyway. Since I don’t usually buy boxed versions, I was expecting more than I got. Apart from the pretty retail box, you get some pretty small mounting screws which did not seem long enough for most mounting situations, the paper guarantee, and some cryptic paper instructions. Surprisingly (too me) no connection cables were included. There ought to be a law! I didn’t mark WD down for this because my guess is that this is a universal practice by most if not all manufacturers. But remember to pick up a power cable and a SATA connection cable if you don’t have one already.

Noticeable file transfer speed increase. Recommend.

Western digital has never failed me. I’ve had countless drives from them, always working as expected. Runs a bit hotter than WD green drives but faster.

This drive has been performing very well so far. It is a replacement of the original 320GB Seagate on a 2008 Mac Pro. The reason for the purchase was for the much needed space, and for video and photo editing. This hard drive is perfect for this. It is inexpensive. The computer is now operating much more smoothly; it is incredibly quieter; and boot up is a lot faster! The reviews on this drive helped with making the purchase.

I use the 1 TB Caviar Black drives in 3 systems, including external eSata docks. This covers my video editing needs and all administrative functions. They simply work well, and support applications (video editing) which require rapid data transfer.

When you start having terabytes of information, you need larger traditional drives as SSDs are still too expensive. The common sacrifice we face from SSD to a traditional drive is loss in speed, but the Western Digital Black’s speed is satisfying and when you move all your files over and still have so much space left, you’l be happy with your purchase. I actually use this drive for a little bit of everything, gaming, video editing, 3d modeling, mass storage, and may even use it as backup to my other drives. I have no complaints. Above all the 5 warranty is really what sold this drive for me. All the others at WD at 2, so this shows WD’s confidence in their black series drives. You wont be worried about speed or space if your drive is dead after all. Noisy like traditional drives, no surprise there.

I’m a photographer- I have a gallery and also sell my work at a street market. I need my work backed-up- I use a Drobo 5D and that’s backed-up weekly to a 4-bay Drobo. I have the Drobos set-up so two drives can fail and I won’t lose any data. I bought 2 WD Black 10TB drives as insurance.

Black is beautiful, but it comes at a price: Since the black series of the WD drives are optimized for performance, they have a slightlxy higher wear and tear than let’s say the green rendition, which has lower revs. That said, the black drives are built for for heavy loads and strong performance rather than quiet or energy-saving operation. These drives come with an unusual five year warrranty, and due to heat problems in my relatively small case I had already some dead soldiers. So if you want to use these drives, make sure they are succiciently cooled.

It’s louder than the 1TB HGST it replaces but works well. No drive errors were reported once I got it up an running. Installation was quick. It came with mounting screws, but no SATA cable. The included True Image software made a painless duplicate of the original drive. Windows 8.1 reports 3.63TB of total space after formatting.

I bought this for a gaming/game production PC, and it does its job well. It’s fast for an HDD.

One will replace the old 2T WD that has been my D drive for the last 4 years. The other will just be added to the drive array on my larger machine. Looking forward to not running out of space for a while.

I stick with what works for me over the years – WD!

Excellent upgrade. But, make sure your Windows10 operating system and computer BIOS are compatible with hard drives greater than 2TB.

The hard drive was so noisy I had to disconnect it just so I could think. I feel like an idiot now for not taking the most recent reviews seriously. I’ve used computers with windows 3.1 that had quieter hard drives than this one. Not an understatement! This hard drive is not even worth it when its on sale. The 5 star reviews is a scam! Do not take them seriously. The current batch as of March 2022 is bad DO NOT BUY!
