I purchased this drive to replace a similar (green) drive that I had purchased for use on a Drobo unit. The green drive did not seem to be able to handle the Drobo operations whereas the Black drive both installed without too many issues and seems to working fine. It seems the black drive is more up to the task of operating in the Drobo environment, at least this large of a drive.

Drives arrived quickly and worked as expected

It’s Wester Digital what can I say …

Quite simply it was plug n play. Drive was easy to install in my Mac Pro and works seamlessly with my system. Typical B&H ordered at 3 pm received the drive the next day, well packaged too. I have been a B&H customer for over 30 years, never shop anywhere else!

Can’t go wrong with WD Black. In an age where SSD’s are standard, you still can’t get this kind of local space for the price. Don’t use this as a main drive of course 😉

Order once received product – Ordered again and everything went smooth.

Very Easy Installation. I say this coming from no technical experience whatsoever. I am a musician! But I took a chance on my 7 year old iMac and did a hard drive upgrade. The installation was the easiest part. It runs really quietly and much quicker than the old drive.

This is my 5th WD Drive and they have all been very reliable. Had 3 Seagates fail on me – never again!! I use 2 WD reds in a raid setup and this is used as a Time Machine drive. Love the 5 year warranty, but hope I never have to use it.

used in back up enclosure works well

I love it!! Practicality does all the installation itself..

I give B & H the five stars for their price, shipping and tracking information. My profession is computers. I purchased this particular Hard Drive as a replacement for one that failed. As of this writing, it is working great and give it a three stars. Out of all of the HD from Wester Digital, I suggest the Black Series for my particular application as a replacement in an iMac. We are down to only a few HD manufacturers, and at this moment, WD is one of the most reliable.

I purchased three (3) of the Western Digital 4TB Caviar Black HDD’s for my Mac Pro. The HDD’s that Western Digital produces have never failed on me. Whether for video, music or data storage I can always count on Western Digital to be there. I would and have recommended Western Digital products.

I use two each for my two machines. I bought a 5th to use in a HD enclosure to back up a laptop. I only have SATA II (3Gb/s)but the drive can be jumpered into that mode which eliminates overhead from transation, thus performing better when SATA II connected. It is also a 1 platter drive reducing wear on the spindle and must have greater areal density than equal sized multi-platter drives…Areal density is a measure of the quantity of information bits that can be stored on a given length of track, area of surface, or in a given volume of a computer storage medium. Generally, higher density is more desirable, for it allows greater volumes of data to be stored in the same physical space. Density therefore has a direct relationship to storage capacity of a given medium. Density also generally has a fairly direct effect on the performance within a particular medium, as well as price. With a five year warranty this was a great buy and was retail boxed. First time I’ve seen a retail boxed drive in ages. In 25 years of building my own and machines for others I’ve had only one WD drive fail and trust me, I’ve run dozens of them under very demanding circumstances.

I used this drive to clone a 9 year old drive about to fail. I used the WD software to do the clone and both the drive and the software worked flawlessly. And I might add I knew B&H had my back too.

I have been using WD Caviar Black hard drives for years. They are easy to install, they are fast and last forever(almost). The drives I just purchased are to replace 2 six year old drives that got tired. These drives are enterprise quality and worth the money.

People have reviewed this saying there is a noise issue – and, for me, the drive is about as noisy as my other older drives whether being accessed or idle. It is fast and so far has been rock solid.

Really good product. Stays fairly cool and no issues so far!

This drive is used in an enclosure for raw storage on a Mac. It is quiet and performs as expected. One needs to be aware that, on a Mac, the drive icon will not show up until the drive is reformatted. Instead, the user will see an error message declaring the drive unreadable. At that point the user will be given the opportunity to format.

This drive is fast. Using for video editing.
