The only reason it doesn’t get a five is because there aren’t any real instructions for cloning and the web site for downloading the free software is obtuse. You would think WD would have a wealth of easy to follow instructions and video, but I found it to be pretty useless.

I bought the drive in order to replace existing c drive which is 4 years old. The first drive I got had to be replaced since it crashed from day one. Since the of the installation the second drive, it has been working fine with good response time (better than the Seagate I replaced). In both cases the cloning software Acronis, did not work! I tried both the WD and the Seagate versions. Disabling the antivirus did not help and I could not find a reasonable solution. WD support was below any reasonable expectation. I spent more time my personal info and very little time in resolving the issue. They never called back as they promised nor demonstrated any technical skills. Eventually I used Macrium which worked fine without any problem. If you are thinking to replace existing C drive – think about the cloning software if you are looking to get a drive with a good performance you MAY get a working drive with good perfromance

I bought this to backup my new computer. Im using it in a dock. Ive only wriiten to it once. The drive is exceptionallly quiet in the open dock. Ive alway had success with WD w/o any drive failures in the past.

Needed a larger C HDD for my desktop. Installed this as D and Cloned C to it and then switched. Install went smoothly and it is working well as expected. However, a better review will be if I can say the same thing in another 3 or 4 years.

I had WD black drives in my previous build running for past 7 years, I hope I am lucky again. The drives are quiet and plenty zippy for my home PC

I have bought several drives from here. This WD Black 1TB is for a new PC gaming build, for file storage, applications, and OS image backup, etc. The boot drive is a Samsung SSD, which I also purchased from B&H, here. My experience has been, I find really good prices here for memory & storage, on brands like WD, and fast free shipping. Good – drive passed a 48hr stresstest with no errors. Stayed cool and quiet the entire stresstest. Registered it thru WD, it’s a retail kit, so it has 5 year warranty. Not so good – it’s never free. Reasonable, yes; free, no.

Fairly fast high performing. Works well for internal storage as well as for external storage with a USB dock. We use several for a variety of purposes. Some are used for backup. Some are used for additional storage.

Upgraded mirrored O/S from SATA II to SATA III with 32G SanDisk SSD cache for Windows 10. Great price from B&H with 5 year warranty. System really runs fast and smooth. Finally a good O/S worthy of Microsoft.

Bought 3 of these, put them in RAID5 for housing backups of up files from client video shoots. So far them seem to be working great. Easy install, easy RAID, not problems so far, probably will buy a few more very soon. I tend to not buy OEM drives when possible, I prefer the retail boxed versions.

This was used to replace a failing HD that was used for data storage in a desktop. Installation was easy and the data load went smoothly. I’ve use WD Caviar Black hard drive for years without any problems. SSD’s are used for the O?S and programs and WD HHD’s for the data storage.

Perfect for Final Cut Pro X editing. I’ve been buying these hard drives for as long as I can remember.

utilized in my wife’s PC as a single drive. Back up to a NAS. Newly installed, packaged well, performs well, quiet.

I needed to increase the storage for my data, music and photos on my desktop. I had done research on what I thought I needed and the size I wanted but I wanted to talk to someone knowledgeable about this. So I called B&H because their customer service department and technical department have always been helpful. And once again that proved to be the case. I was correct in my research and I ordered two of the larger drives and received them in just a couple of business days.

I installed 2 of these drives in a 2012 Mac Pro Tower in less than half an hour. They perform well and appear to be stable. They are used to store intensive material, like video and photographs.

I was a bit concerned about PWL noise issue that some users have reported, but this model seems to be free of it. It does run a bit warm but it will sit directly in an airflow path in my case so I’m not expecting any issues. I’m letting it run non-stop in a dock while I copy files to it over the next few days and then into the computer it goes (joining 3 other Blacks).

Best for Storage.

A reliable manufacturer (WD) with a great 5-year warranty purchased through a great retailer (B&H) is the way to go. It was great right out of the box, and I dont have to worry if it fails any time soon.

Cannot beat WD black drives.
