I’m using this is a Drobo disk array. Works great.

I purchased the drive I was running out of space for my photos on my 1 TB Seagate Barracuda. I wanted a fast and quiet drive to support photo editing. It is both.
Kendra Wilderman (verified owner) –
I buy these and use these often at home and at work. In my experience these fail far less often than Seagate and the price is reasonable.

Perfect work station drive… WD always reliable.

Excellent external HD used as operating system for iMac – fast, we’ll see how it does longterm…

This is an expansion to my 2Tb WD Black HDD, this is all you expect from a mechanical drive. Fast, quiet and reliable. I use it for my Media Server (PLEX) and is just amazing.

I have no complaints about their performance, but they get very hot. Even when operating them in open air, with a fan running, you will see that they get very hot. If you want to put them inside a computer, you better have fans blowing directly onto the drives. I wouldn’t recommend putting them in a chassis that doesn’t have fans blowing (or sucking) air directly onto the hard drives. The total power consumption, based on the rating on the drive, shouldn’t be more than 10W. But the drives feel like they are burning lot more power!

Two weeks and still working fine.

WD produces top of the line HDD, not problem at that. However, for new HDDs, they implemented this PWL which suppose to improve longivity of the products. It sounds nice, and yeah it sounds freaking annoying. It causes HDDs to click every 5 seconds even if they are on idle. It is not just the faint clicking you use to hear when they are working, no, it shurks hard that it moves the case so is my desk. I can just feel the vibration. And it constantly keep doing it for every 5 seconds. I bought 2 4 TB and 1 6TB, all does it. So freaking annoying. There is no way a person can stand that in a quiet room. All of mine made in Thailand, I am not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I checked online and it has been the problem since 3 yrs ago. So make sure you know what you are getting. Considering the fantastic return policy BH provides, but it is very annoying for the process. Button line, keep your box so you might need to use it for the return. Fedex charges ridiculous amount for packging. I miss UPS days.

Out of all the internal hard drives I have had over the years the Western Digital Black drive has exceeded my expectations in reliability and performance for a mechanical drive. Most hard drives I usually get last about 3 years before I start having trouble. I had the 4TB WD Black drive for a little shy of 6 years before it started giving me problems. This drive was both a replacement drive and an upgrade in storage capacity. Yes I would highly recommend the drive.

We installed this to upgrade my existing hard drive on a Dell PC. Works Great. Easy install!

Installed easily and working well for several months. Slightly noiser than other drives, but not a problem. So far I am pleased with this purchase.

Great performance

I replaced a failed green WD 2TB drive with this black WD 4TB. It’s fast and quiet. Hopefully it will last longer than the green drive. It took 12 full days to recover 1.5TB, (43049 photo files) from Carbonite online backup service, at their governed snails pace download speed.

So far the drives have been great; I bought two. A bit on the noisy side but about 20% faster than my 4tb Seagate with twice the cache. I took off one point for the noise, otherwise I love the drives.

Have had no trouble with my other Caviar Black Hard Drives so was happy to give these 4TB drives a spin as well.

I highly recommend the WD black series drives. I own three that have been periodically buying over the years as I need space and none have had any issues yet. This drive is great for multimedia storage and is reliable enough to edit on. It helps that they come with a 5 year warranty from WD. Statistically these have a much lower fail rate than other brands and series of drives, worth the extra cost for the longevity.

I converted to WD HDD’s about a year ago. I had been using another brand for years but, the reliability just was not what it used to be. WD HDD’s have been running perfectly in my machine, no issues to date. Fast Free Shipping from B&H is always appreciated!

The drive works flawlessly, the price was the lowest I could find, and it arrived quickly in perfect condition. Unfortunately, I could not use it to completely replace the existing 1TB hard drive. Due to the age of the machine, the largest drive it could support was a 2TB C drive. So I now have 5TB total storage. Not exactly the solution I wanted, but certainly not the drive’s fault.

I bought a new computer and added this extra hard drive. No problems installing, and it appears to be working correctly. Time will tell. I have used other WD drives (internal and external) with no problems.
