Great drives and great warranty (not that I’ve ever needed it with the black series.) My go to for desktop builds or storage.

I have used WD Black drives exclusively in my Drobo 5D for about 5 years. I am a photographer and need the capacity, performance, and longevity of these drives. I started with 5 x 1TB drives, and had already upgraded 3 of them with 4TB Drives. Wanted a little more capacity, so decided to upgrade the 2 remaining 1TB drives with these 4TB drives. Everything went perfectly, the new drives are installed and performing as expected. B&H has a great price on these 4TB drives and excellent service as always.

WD produces top of the line HDD, not problem at that. However, for new HDDs, they implemented this PWL which suppose to improve longivity of the products. It sounds nice, and yeah it sounds freaking annoying. It causes HDDs to click every 5 seconds even if they are on idle. It is not just the faint clicking you use to hear when they are working, no, it shurks hard that it moves the case so is my desk. I can just feel the vibration. And it constantly keep doing it for every 5 seconds. I bought 2 4 TB and 1 6TB, all does it. So freaking annoying. There is no way a person can stand that in a quiet room. All of mine made in Thailand, I am not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I checked online and it has been the problem since 3 yrs ago. So make sure you know what you are getting. Considering the fantastic return policy BH provides, but it is very annoying for the process. Button line, keep your box so you might need to use it for the return. Fedex charges ridiculous amount for packging. I miss UPS days.

I have only had the HDD installed for a week and it is performing fine. It might be a little faster than the older Seagate it replaced. I am disappointed in all the noise it makes. It is very loud. My Seagate was quite, but only a 2-year warranty. I went with WD because of the 5-year warranty.

Installed this in a new build as storage with an SSD as boot drive. Just works flawlessly as have all my WD drives in the past. I went with the Black for performance since some of my programs will be installed on this drive rather than SSD.

3 minute install after you dig out your computer and open it to reveal your internal drives. Yeah, it is that easy to install. But wait: I am replacing a failed WD 4T internal SATA drive before its warranty period expired. My MAC Pro warnings provided me with enough time to transfer all of my files from the failing drive to an external drive before any data was lost. This is the only WD drive to fail me in 35 years.

In what little time I’ve had it, it so far is doing great. Because of it’s speed (7200rpm) it is noisy. Other than that no complaints.

These are the only hard disk drives that I ever buy anymore! I love the reliability of the WD Caviar Black series over other brands I have used in the past. I have had several internal hard disks fail that were included in computers purchased over the years & once I started replacing the inferior brands with new Caviar Black drives, I have not had any further issues.

Very fast but a little noisy. I added pads to the feet of the drive case to quiet the transmission through the desktop and it quieted down quite a bit.

Bought to add storage to my new custom desktop running Windows 10 off a SSD. Quick install, setup and off we go! Very fast!

I bought 2 of these and both are working great after about a month.

I’ve used a bunch of these for a long time. Consistently find good performance and durability.

Some complain of nose. My computer case is open and very close (3 feet, 1 meter from my ear) and I find no problem with noise. My location is very quite.

I purchased this drive to replace a 6-year-old Seagate Barracuda drive that was still running great but is now too small. I switched to WD this time on the basis of both price and reports that showed WD offering better long-term reliability these days. (My own experience with external drives agrees with those reports.) However….I hate this new drive. The noise level is awful!! Other reviewers complained that this drive was noisy, but I took a chance. I don’t mind clicks and clunks when I access files — that’s the drive doing it’s job. However, this drive has two problems: It clicks loudly every 5 seconds, even when idle; and worse yet, it makes a loud whirring/rubbing sound the entire time it’s spinning. My two Seagate drives in this system were completely inaudible over the system fans, but this new drive drowns out everything around it by a large margin. Worse yet, there are high-frequency components to the whirring that grate on my nerves, but which the engineers at WD apparently can’t even hear (or they would never have released this product). I was planning to upgrade my other Seagate Barracuda soon, too, given that it is also 6 years old. Needless to say, I’ll be replacing that one with a Seagate rather than another WD. My biggest regret with this new drive is that the 5-year warranty means I can’t justify replacing it anytime soon.

Bought for backup. Using internally on a eSATA network. Gets about 120 mbs to 156 mbs transfer of data between SSDs that are running between 2.5 gbs and 490 mbs max.
