i do audio mixing and have a bunch of sleds for my mac computer having six 1 and 2 terabyte drives is great AND the black cavier WD’s are the most robust drives..knock on wood i have 10 year old WD sata’s that i’m still using.. i got these 2 because i had a seagate barracuda and it failed..this is the second time i had a failure with that type drive so no more purchases of them. WD black all the way! They arrived so quickly and the price was great..BH is a great company to deal with and customer service is prompt and on point

I use this drive, have now 4 of them. However, this latest purchase was problematic: Arrived DOA! Was not pleased! It was sent back. After some delay and back-ordering wait time, the unit received is purring fine, quiet and fast. So far when in service none of these drives gave me any problem! The customer service people are slow not very eager to please, but complete their job in their own slow time!

Been using WD Black drives over the years from 1g to 10gb now (skipped the 8gb drive). Getting ~125mb/s sustained transfer while copying (via external USB3) ~6gb of game files from my old drive WD Black. Instead of using explorer to copy I used the FastCopy (https://fastcopy.jp/) utility which performed better than the default Microsoft Explorer copy.

WD 6TB Black – November 2020… I have been using Western Digital Black HDD since they first offered them. Never had a problem. I have not had any die on me, I replace them after 5 years. This month 11/2020, B+H had the best price, free shipping, no sales tax. I bought four (4) 6 TB to replace 5+6 year old and smaller HDDs. I look forward to when WD has 6 TB SATA SSDs and B+H sells them at the best price.

I got 2 of these (2x 6TB) to set up a RAID in a new PC build, so far they work great. I’m a WD fan, and these will hopefully have all the performance I need.

INSTALLED THIS IS A 2006 IMAC WHOSE TOSHIBA DRIVE FAILED AFTER 15 MONTHS..NOT ONLY IS THIS DRIVE MUCH FASTER BUT IT IS ALSO QUIETIER WHEN OPERATING.. EXCELLENT DRIVE!

Works fine. I can hear it spin as I edit, which is a little annoying.

I have used Western digital Black series with great success.

First, I recommend the version with retail packaging since it offers some extra protection during the shipping process. This is a good and speedy HDD by a highly regarded manufacturer. I have just installed it as the replacement C: drive in my desktop and reloaded it from a system image. It is noticeably faster than the WD 1TB green drive it replaces. My only hesitation (at the cost of one star in an otherwise perfect recommendation) is that it is somewhat noisy–much noisier than the near silent disk it replaced or the WD 1.5TB spare drive I have along side it in the case. It sounds similar to an old geiger counter in the movies. The noise isn’t alarming or obtrusive, particularly, but if you have your tower on top of your desk as I do, you might think of moving it under your desk.

I have this drive running in my surveillance DVR now for about 15 months and it really is the quality I would expect from Western Digital. Today I exchanged this drive for a 3TB purple drive (WD of course), just to maximize the capacity of my DVR. I have never really noticed it but this drive creates a lot of heat when used 24/7 . I know this drive was never meant to be in a DVR but considering the quality of the WD drives, I tried it for about 15 months. That in fact the drive went through this long time running 24/7, confirms my trust in WD drives once more. Out of 35 drives I bought over the years I had only two that failed (fortunately within warranty). Even my oldest drive from 2002 is still up and running. I never was that lucky with drives from other manufacturers.

I always use and have been happy with the Western Digital Hard Drives. I’ve had great results with the WD line of products for over 30 years and recommend them. This is a great drive in the mechanical side of drives and they make SSD’s as well.

I recently purchased three of these to replace 6-year-old Seagate drives on my sound production computer (one for the OS, one for audio, one for sample/video files). The Seagate drives worked perfectly for me; my main motivation for the upgrade was disk space. I contemplated getting an SSD for my primary drive, but I probably would have only noticed a marginal increase in performance with the age of my MOBO. Other than digging around in the computer chassis, installation was pretty straightforward. I used WD’s free True Image cloning software (available through their website) to copy all of the data from my old drives. I was slightly concerned about copying over the OS, but everything worked without a hitch. I have already used these drives in several editing sessions and am happy with their performance. And to my delight, they’re even quieter than my previous drives. If and when I upgrade my computer, I definitely feel comfortable bringing these drives along.
