Have had Caviar Blacks for 5 years and just upgraded size in PC. This new drive is quicker and I anticipate will last and while I’ve never had a failure,if it doesn’t, the 5 year warranty will kick in.

Installed in a 5 year old Dell desktop. Immediate increase in boot speed, large programs load noticeably faster.

Compared to an ssd the price per GB for this hdd is much better. This was the perfect choice for me since I needed a larger drive to use for storage and the high price for lower storage capacity ssd was not worth it for me. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for storage on a budget, but are unwilling to give up reliability.

I have 3 of these 6TB drives running on a docking station. Edited a feature film on these. No issues whatsoever. I recommend.

Purchased to keep my photo files backed up. I’ve always liked the Western Digital Caviar Black HDD’s especially with a 5 year warranty. This drive is fast. I’ve never had a problem with them. I currently have a 2 TB WD Black drive in my computer for my working files so this 4 TB drive is just what I needed to keep copies of those files on a separate drive. B&H shipped this to me in 2 days which is very fast compared to other suppliers.

I’m getting the apparently well-known PWL (Preemptive/Preventative Wear-Leveling) noise many people report with this drive. This is incredibly and constantly annoying to me, but this drive has far worse problems than that. After several months of wondering what’s wrong with my system or my Windows install or everything else under the sun, I’ve realized after a bunch of time-consuming web research that it’s actually this hard drive causing my problems: The drive constantly parks its head when not in use for a short amount of time, regularly causing work-stoppage-level File Explorer freezes/meltdowns. I purchased this drive specifically because of its reputation for speed and centered my in-workstation storage on it, so having this debilitating feature sneaked in is a real rug-pull for me. It will be difficult and time-consuming to transfer all of this data to a new drive of this size and set it up again, so I’m stuck with this awful performance for the time being until I can find the time to take on the task. Very frustrated, it may be a long time before I can bring myself to trust WD again.

SSDs are great but still too pricey per gig to hold your photos or to act as a backup drive. The black WD hdds give the best performance of any reasonably priced drive and have the best warranties, 5 years from the manufacturer. I find that WD drives last basically forever barring physical accidents. An interesting datapoint- Google data centers use ordinary hdds for a lot of their storage and one brand of drive, I read, has a much lower failure rate than others. They won’t say who the manufacturer is, but I have to believe it’s WD. You don’t buy an hdd for speed, at least once you’ve gotten used to ssd speeds, you buy it to not crash, and in this these drives trully excel.

I’ve relied on WD Caviar drives for over a decade and each release has been better and just as reliable in my experience. They’re fast and come with WD’s best consumer warranty, 5 years. This version is also quieter than the previous model and about 30% faster by my estimation. I bought two and they’re running nicely in a software RAID 0 inside a Hackintosh (home-built PC running Macintosh OS) used for video editing.

I’ve used WD Caviar Drives for video editing and internal hard drives for my PCs and Macs for years, and I’ve found them to be very reliable.

These drives are my preference for those systems that need to meet high performance standards. The drives are backed by an excellent 5-year warranty that is hard to beat. I won’t use any other drive.

Went to replace my HTSC drives in a G-raid by G Tech and they work and function perfectly

Second WD Black HDD failure in just 2 weeks. WD used to be good and reliable. WD offered refurbished replacement only. So I pay $$for a new HD, and they offer me a refurbished replacement for my new HDD? WD just lost a long time customer.
