The rack-mountable XKE-40 Stick with 40 Programmable Keys from X-keys allows you to create macros, shortcuts and applications, select tools, and open files or directories via its 40 programmable keys. It connects to your computer via a USB connector, and has a memory capacity of approximately 21,000 keystrokes or commands in on-board memory. The XKE-40 features addressable blue and red backlighting, which allows you to identify the keys in low-light environments. Its elongated form makes the unit suitable for server control or production truck installations. Free software development kits are available for download from the X-keys website for Windows, OS X, Linux, Android, and more.

We needed a way to control our servers running Limelight XE which directly supports the XKE-40. Quality is great and the functionality is excellent. If you need to control software on headless servers, this is the ticket. Backlighting can be programmatically changed on individual keys providing feedback on status. You can simply look at the rack and see if things are working… great feature!

I love my new X-keys. I use it with Keyboard Maestro and it works great. Build quality is impeccable. My only reservation is that the MAC OS X application does not support the customization of the lights. Otherwise, great tool!
