Transform a single USB 3.0 port from a notebook, tablet, or desktop into four USB 3.0 ports—with one performing double duty as a charging port—with the Powered USB 3.0 Slim Aluminum Hub from Xcellon. Each of the four ports is outfitted with USB 3.0 technology that enables it to transfer data at rates of up to 5 Gb/s. When used as a stand-alone hub, the one charging port delivers up to 2.4A of current for recharging tablets, smartphones, and other power-hungry devices. Furthermore, the hub is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 interfaces and supports a wide-variety of systems, including Windows, Mac, Chrome, and Linux.
When compared to the previous version, this Xcellon hub features a slimmer design as well as a redesigned power system, which provides a toggle switch and the ability to automatically turn on when the host computer is powered on or restarted. Moreover, the slim design and rubber treads allow the hub to stay upright while unplugging and plugging in USB cables.
Xcellon has constructed this 4-port hub of heat-dissipating aluminum and includes a dual-voltage power adapter for ensuring ample power flows to your USB-connected devices, while reducing the strain on the host system’s components. Aside from power, LED indicators are located next to each port, so you can see the power status of each individual USB port. There’s also an included 3.3′ (1m) USB 3.0 Type-A cable and an included 3.3′ (1m) USB 3.0 Type-C cable that lets you start using this hub right away.

Multiple ports allows me to keep external hard drives and other devices connected for quick and easy access.

Love it so far. Built well and sleek. Pricey though.

Or so it seems. There must have been a bottleneck with my older USB hub. This one makes my life much easier. I’ve had experience as others have noted with HDs loosing their connection on the Mac and this is a very tricky thing to find a solution for, but in my case there was unknown hardware conflicts between my monitor and a dock… just an FYI in case you run into similar issues when running any peripherals.

Seems well-built, the aluminum case has some heft and the ports are solid. Comes with both USB-A and USB-C cables, which is nice. Works well with my computer (I’m running Linux, and have had issues in the past with USB3 hubs not recognizing USB2 devices). The only con, and reason I’ve removed a star, is that it doesn’t appear to support bus-power mode at all. If the power brick isn’t plugged in, it won’t work. Most other hubs I’ve used will work over bus power with lower powered devices, and only require external power for high draw stuff or charging, but not this one. Not a deal-breaker for me since it’s going to be used on a desktop, but if you’re looking at this for a laptop/portable situation, you might want to find something else.

My Lenovo laptop is wonderful but just down not have all the ports I need for external hard drives, camera, DVD drive, MP3 player charging, etc. This hub solved all these problems immediately and reliably without taking up much desk space.

I needed to run a Camera, DJ controller, SD card reader, and a USB mic from a single USB-A 3.0 port. The port had the power and capacity to host the devices and I had a plethora of spare hubs, some powered, some not. None of them worked. I searched for a solution and the Xcellon came through. All of my devices work together as they should. No errors, no drop outs, pure bliss.

Works great – replaced an old wheezy port with only 6 slots – this is so much better. Really like the light indication.

I bought a new computer that did not have enough USB ports. This seems to be working well without issues

We have two of these, and they generally do well. The only glitch is that once in a while they will simply drop off-line, ejecting all the drives without warning. However, I have found that this only happens when transferring large files (TB-sized) from one drive to another drive – also on the hub.

I have had/used many USB hubs & most were junk but this one is nice 😀 I am really happy with this USB Hub, it is well made, does not get hot & my USB sticks don’t seem as hot. I don’t feel like it’s going to start a fire unlike most USB hubs. All & all this is a good buy.

These are REALLY nice quality and since I upgraded my old iMac to one of the newest ones, this device is a life saver for keeping all my old USB devices accessible. Its build quality is top notch and the soft rubber feet keep it from sliding around as I plug and unplug cables. Highly recommended!

This USB hub has done just what I hoped: sit there, ignored, functioning as if all of its ports were originally built into my iMac. It looks nice, feels well built and the metal case has enough weight to stay where you put it with stuff plugged into it. The power supply appears to be of decent quality and doesn’t create any audio interference in my setup. I looked for things to complain about before writing this review, but I have no complaints. I’d buy this again!

I had numerous cheap USB hubs that gave noise on my audio sources during live webinars and video recording. Was using 12/15 port powered hubs thinking they were all the same. I’m using high end audio gear and I traced it to my USB hubs by connecting directly to my PC and proving the noise went away. I’m using XLR mics, Rode NTG5 with Rodecaster Pro, ATEM mini pro, etc. Found no issues with the 4 and 7 port from Xcellon. Just purchased the 10 port Xcellon to replace the 4 because I still need more connections. The hubs I had trouble with weren’t even sold by B&H. I will never try to save money again with USB hubs when audio quality is critical.

I needed a hub out front for my I Mac to avoid having to plug in the back.B&H suggested this. This is perfect for all drives and card readers. Thanks so much.

Because I use a fair number of peripherals, I tend to run out of USB Type-A ports fast. This product more or less solves the problem. I say or less because more than one data/charging port would be super useful. That’s a minor complaint, however. This little thing is performing well for me so far.

This thing does an incredible amount of work 365 days a year. I only wish it had more ports (I currently have 2 *additional* USB hubs chained off of it). I’ve never had any compatibility issues with it, and the USB3 speeds have always been pretty good, even with every port full. Never had any power-dip issues, either. My only complaints are that I wish the power supply brick was integrated into it and that the power supply is quite noisy (USB audio adapters powered by this have a distinct whine).

Pretty disappointed. I’ve had this for exactly 1 month. I’ve been using it to charge my phone, power an HDMI capture card, and a Focusrite 2i4 interface, all of which had been working relatively well (my phone doesn’t seem to charge from it as much now). I just got a new audio interface today, and even though the light on the interface turns on, there’s no light/response from the hub. The interface doesn’t even show up on my computer. When I plug the interface directly to my computer, it pops up just fine. I switched between the two a few times, same results. I then figured maybe it’s the cable even though this interface is brand new. So I switched to a different USB-C cable that came with a separate capture card, and the hub powered the capture card fine. I then disconnected it and attached my interface, no response. Switched back to the capture card, worked fine. So this is a headache, to say the least.

I’m decidedly pleased with this hub. Overall build quality is better than previous hubs that I’ve owned. It definitely seems sturdy and solid, and the matte black aluminum frame gives it a premium look on my desk. The led indicators are bright, evenly lit, and very visible without being blinding or distracting. Though I haven’t speed tested it (for either data transfer rates or charging speed), I don’t have any complaints.
