Transform a single USB 3.0 port from a notebook, tablet, or desktop into seven USB 3.0 ports—with two performing double duty as charging ports—with the Powered USB 3.0 Slim Aluminum Hub from Xcellon. Each of the seven ports is outfitted with USB 3.0 technology that enables it to transfer data at rates of up to 5 Gb/s. When used as a stand-alone hub, the two charging ports can each deliver up to 2.4A of current for recharging tablets, smartphones, and other power-hungry devices. Furthermore, the hub is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 interfaces and supports a wide-variety of systems, including Windows, Mac, Chrome, and Linux.
When compared to the previous version, this Xcellon hub features a slimmer design as well as a redesigned power system, which provides a toggle switch and the ability to automatically turn on when the host computer is powered on or restarted. Moreover, the slim design and rubber treads allow the hub to stay upright while unplugging and plugging in USB cables.
Xcellon has constructed this 7-port hub of heat-dissipating aluminum and includes a dual-voltage power adapter for ensuring ample power flows to your USB-connected devices, while reducing the strain on the host system’s components. Aside from power, LED indicators are located next to each port, so you can see the power status of each individual USB port. There’s also an included 3.3′ (1m) USB 3.0 Type-A cable and an included 3.3′ (1m) USB 3.0 Type-C cable that lets you start using this hub right away.

Or so it seems. There must have been a bottleneck with my older USB hub. This one makes my life much easier. I’ve had experience as others have noted with HDs loosing their connection on the Mac and this is a very tricky thing to find a solution for, but in my case there was unknown hardware conflicts between my monitor and a dock… just an FYI in case you run into similar issues when running any peripherals.

Hi, I ordered this device and once connected it emits a faint permanent high frequency noise that I have so far only encountered from cheap power supplies. It comes from the device itself not from the power supply. While this is super faint, it is impossible to work on this computer once you start hearing it as the frequency is in a band that is very irritating – I am usually not very noise sensitive with all other devices such as the fan of my macbook and such.

This thing does an incredible amount of work 365 days a year. I only wish it had more ports (I currently have 2 *additional* USB hubs chained off of it). I’ve never had any compatibility issues with it, and the USB3 speeds have always been pretty good, even with every port full. Never had any power-dip issues, either. My only complaints are that I wish the power supply brick was integrated into it and that the power supply is quite noisy (USB audio adapters powered by this have a distinct whine).

Works a treat, so far. Haven’t had it long, but it does what it says and seems solid. Not plastic. On/off switch gives a positive click. Lights next to the ports show up when something active is plugged in, and then don’t light up if something is plugged in but not on. Small thing, but helped me track down a bad cable. Lots of free ports on the computer now.

This is a nice, solidly build USB 3.0 hub. Adds multiple ports to my iMac. USB 3.0 speeds sufficient for my needs. The two powered ports work well with my external DVD drive and external SSD drives hosting data as well as SELinux virtual machine files with VNWare Fusion.
