The blue powder coat finish will help keep this vise looking professional for years to come. The Medium Duty 480 is designed to be more durable than the regular Apprentice Series of vises.

This bench vise is very sturdy and perfect for all of my needs as a DIY, regular weekend project kind of Dad. It does not come with mounting hardware, so I measured and got that separately. I used 4” length 5/8” bolts with washers and hex nuts to secure it to my gladiator work bench. I probably could’ve used 11/16” or maybe 3/4” bolts if I wanted to. Easy swing movement, locks in position great and is a breeze to open/close the jaws.

This is a serious tool for serious use. It opens and closes smoothly and has a good finished feel to it. I mounted mine to a 12″ x 12″ x 3/4″ piece of plate steel, then mounted that to my welding bench. The swivel feature works very nicely. The top locks into a series of teeth on the bottom and is rock-solid, even when not fully tightened. And the teeth are small enough to provide good positioning in the rotation. I’m very impressed with the vise and with the ordering process. I had it delivered to the local store and picked it up there. Home Depot sent me an email and text when it arrived at the store. I went it to pick it up and found no line at the “On-Line Orders” desk. I was in and out in three or four minutes. Painless.

The base casting was way off from the template. Somehow when the base part was made or poured, one of the tabs was way off. I also didn’t see the need for the 18” x 18” x 2“ being so big since the vise is mounted on the corner of the workbench. I will include a picture trying to show that offset. The vise is a beast
