Aside from its 2TB of storage capacity, it’s built with 256-bit AES hardware encryption to help ensure your files are protected, and features USB 3.2 Gen 1 connectivity for fast transfers. It and comes formatted NTFS for Windows 8.1 and 10, but may be reformatted for other operating systems, and connects to your host system using an included micro-USB to USB Type-A cable. Users can take advantage of WD’s Discovery and Backup software to help manage and back up their files as well.

In the past I always purchased WD “My book” hard drives for backing up iMac and Ibook. Everything worked perfectly. In a few minutes installation was completed. My Passport 2T was not easy to install it because it kept crashing repeatedly. The positive thing is that I learned something about hard drive formatting and disk repairs. I installed the app for Mac. Impossible to make a mistake but the final result was that My passport 2T disk was formatted NFTS (Microsoft) instead of MacOS Extended needed for both disk read and write. After reformatting My passport 2T to Mac Os Extended I was able to back up my Ibook. Still, I had a couples crushes during disk back up. Using another app I repaired the disk and started all over again. Now finally it works. Not being an expert on this subject it took me some time to figure it out. Would I buy another one? Likely, I have to make sure the disk is formatted correctly and if it crashes repair it.

I bought this passport external hard drive and was very excited because i needed something that I could store of all my photos and videos. it worked fine for the first year and then just out of nowhere, it stopped working. It keeps making noises like its trying to run but immediately stops and on and on for a few minutes. My computer does not recongnize it at all. I have 3 years work of work in there and now i am afraid i will have to spends thousands of dollars trying to recover my data.

This is a great hard drive for backing up my photos. It’s not an SSD, but it’s still pretty fast, as it’s USB 3.2. I really like that fact it powers from the USB port and does not need external power. I can take it with me when I need to. Great little 2.5 drive.

I purchased the newest MacBook Pro of the time in 2021 Christmas, and paired it with a WD 1TB My Passport. Was being told that as long as I install all required softwares, the drive will work its magic. Turned out that wasn’t true. It didn’t work properly since the very first day of purchase, has been on and off on MacBook. Yesterday it just crashed all of a sudden while I was transferring photos into it. Ran all drive tests on Disk Utilities but all came back to be passed. There are plenty of precious memories stored in this external drive and I seriously don’t know what to do. The drive doesn’t come with a USB cable that’s compatible with the newest MacBooks (as they no longer have ports for USB-A cables, adaptors are needed always). Please kindly advise BUT don’t reply with the same standard template without actually reading my comment. Many thanks.

I bought My Passport to store very large fine art paintings. It copies them fast, but I should have gotten a drive with more capacity. It takes a bit more time to render them. Other than that, I have no problems with My Passport. It’s ease to use, practical, and smaller than my phone.

Drives average temp is in the range of 50 to 55c. Its very hot to handle. I have used a different computer and cable and still the drive is hot. Its just under 2 days i have bought it. Is this temperature rate normal. I own 2 other wd external drived snd they are never this hot. Please help

It takes forever to try to mount. If you close the laptop while it is still plugged in, you have to go into disk recovery and run first aid…..it is terrible.

i bought this to back up my pictures every time i plug it in it asks me to register it which i did the first time i plugged it in. Still have not been able to back up anything on Windows 11 and this is a BrandNew desktop computer
